Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
Regarding casting: if they go with the young Aragorn idea - an actor I would suggest is Taylor Kitsch. He was excellent on the TV series of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS a few years ago and has passed out of favor after the JOHN CARTER debacle. But he certainly has the look and can do physical acting and emot...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
I'm apprehensive about Old Tom—how will they possibly present him as he is in the book without it appearing ridiculous? The hopping about, the rhymes. . . . However, my reaction to the thought of seeing Aragorn's back story is much more positive. I will hope for something great. There are some trag...

Re: 2016 United States Election
I have not made a post on politics in years. Just wanted to say that my feelings on Trump are very conflicted. I do not like hardly anything about him and oppose him strongly. I Don't even believe he believes half of what he has said or is sincere about his positions on issues. I think he is a conma...

Re: Gun Control Debate
If the massacre of six-year-olds at Newtown couldn't produce action, I am inclined to think that nothing will, until and unless Congress changes. If a Newtown happened every month for two years it would not get the NRA to relax its chokehold on Congress. The result would be no significant change in...

Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE
Saw the EE of FIVE ARMIES tonight and loved it more than I had hoped I would. I can understand why it was "only 20 minutes" longer because much it -especially battle scenes seems to have layers added which make it a whole new scene without additional running time. An example of that is whe...

It looks like the rumored 30 or more minutes for the EE is not reality. We will get 20 more minutes. Thats it.

More Middle-earth films???
This from our friends over at TORN in summing up the activities at San Diego Comic Con We saved the biggest and most conjecture filled news for last. But first, let’s see if you were paying attention to a certain line of dialogue in The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. After the battle has wound d...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
So this is at least the second time we have heard this about the funeral and the chariot chase scene so that seems pretty solid. Combine that with some of the art we saw in the last CHRONICLES book and its close to a sure thing. I for one dearly hope they give the EE a limited release in theaters as...

Re: Radagast revisited
regarding Merlin - I felt the character was portrayed wonderfully in CAMELOT and was a visual treat. The character had dignity and a sense majesty and a power about him and was part of the forest. And I agree that there is a strong possibility that this was the influence for the visual of Radagast i...

Re: Radagast revisited
The problem I had with the character was the visual design with what I considered to be a silly hat and the bird poop on his face and hair. Throw in the rabbits and it was over the top and very undignified for a member of the Istari.

Beren & Lúthien film rights
I am fed up with the freezing cold of winter and am now rereading LORD OF THE RINGS again.... this time slowly and savoring every word. Yesterday I read the chapter A KINFE IN THE DARK. In it Strider sings to the hobbits of Tinúviel and Beren and then Tolkien through Strider gives us quite a detaile...

Re: BotFA Box Office
So the six Middle-earth films helmed by Jackson will take in just a tad under $6 billion dollars US from the box office and that does not include all the video/DVD/and other ancillary rights. That would make it immensely profitable for all concerned. Money question - which is going to be complete an...

Re: Most Memorable, etc. (Hobbit films)
Most memorable : Smaug in all his glory. Simply the best dragon ever seen on film and executed to perfection. I think when lots of these films are blurs in the mind, Smaug will remain crystal clear Most moving: Balin realizing that Thorin was going mad. Most missed (something from the book that you ...

Re: BotFA Box Office
Big numbers from the China opening - just a tad under $50 million US dollars in the first three days. That should get them to 100 before its done if not more.

Re: Middle Earth Theme Parks?
Elen - were those sets - like Beorns house - saved so that they can be reassembled if necessary later? My uneducated guess would be that they were. If they put together a place in NZ like you speculate on - I would go there to see it all -maybe if four years for a graduation present for my oldest gr...

Re: Middle Earth Theme Parks?
With the movies now completed I wonder what will be the next area for the rights holders to venture into to make even more money? The two obvious would be a theme park and a TV cable show like GAME OF THRONES. I would very much like to see a Middle-earth theme park and wonder if New Zealand would be...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
I know the palantír vision was filmed, because Doug Adams mentioned seeing it in the cut of DoS he viewed in October 2013...but it was removed from the released version. There is some speculation that it might possibly have been kept over for BotFA, but personally I don't really think it would work...
