Re: Lord of the Rings Reboot

nice ideas on the LOTR reboot PtB. Honestly they need to start with the Hobbit though. Introduce that story and then move on to LOTR. Once it gets to LOTR honestly I think each book should be 2 films, released 6 months apart. Not too hard since they are all filmed together, could always finish the f...

Thing is, if that were really true, HFR would've taken over as the format of choice a long time ago, just like CDs clearly took over LPs. But they didn't. If you'd said that LPs would be extinct today at *that* time, you'd have been considered a fool. But LP's are not extinct today. Many bands are ...

i can only say I hope not. IMO that is god awful concept artwork. Reminds me of bad warhammer artwork

I haven't seen enough of Alfrid to give an opinion of him specifically, but the idea of the character seems a bit cliche' to me. Nasty Master of Laketown filled with greed has a lackey who he found as an orphaned child and basically taught him to lick his boots waiting on him hand and foot as a serv...

Well, depending on how far it goes, if true love does develop, then with Kili's death at th Bo5A, Tauriel will fade from a broken heart, thus explaining her absence from LotR. Ties up loose ends nicely! ;) Honestly I'm hoping for Tauriel to bite the bullet (or sword) LITERALLY in TABA right before ...

I can already envision the start of my review: "This movie was terrible, but Tauriel and her theme music saved it from disaster, just as she saved Kili's life." PtB I am seriously hoping that was sarcasm , and you have not joined the dark side in my absence. My views on Tauriel have not c...

well from watching the latest Vlog looks like Bolg is gonna be completely CGI.. Who didn't see this one coming? Now rumors of Bolg's mother getting killed by Thorin. Talk about poor script writing choices. A scenario completely made up when simply having Bolg mad about his fathers death would have s...

Wondering if anyone saw this: http://www-images.theonering.org/torwp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Bard-the-Bowman.jpg If you look into the background on the right hand side of the photo, you'll see what looks to be a ballista - similar in design to the one we've seen from Dale... My interest in the movie threads here has been near zero for some time. Relentless negativity is worse than relentless fanboy chatter--at least the latter has some energy and excitement to it, however ill-founded. I appreciate the sentiment, but I think it is misguided when it comes to this forum. ...

LotR was really pretty restrained with CG. PJ still used physical special effects, old-fashioned scale tricks like forced perspective and standing on a box, miniatures, lots of location shooting, etc. Yeah, and we have the great god 3D to blame for the absence of those things this time round. :( Ne...

I don't think someone with Boyens experience (or lack there of) is qualified to write for a major film. Sorry but the additions she claims to have come up with are against her claims of being a Tolkien nerd. She has said things that make me think she would like Tolkien better if he had done it HER w...

There is certainly a lot more than what's in the vlogs, and frankly, quite a few very emotional moments (even I teared up once during an interview with Freeman, who was tearing up himself). But I would characterize the extras as "extended vlogs" for the most part. We get some new insights...

I've seen the EE special features, and that's mostly what you get. That's too bad I found the appendices stuff from LOTR to be just as amazing as the films. I've probably watched the bonus footage as much as I have LOTR. I'm just hoping there is some great stuff in the Hobbit EE for the behind the ...

There was a lot of toilet humor and off-the-mark stuff, but to be fair, some of PBJ's humorous dialogue in Bag End was quite good, including the Balin line I mentioned, Dwalin's initial encounter with Bilbo, Dwalin and Balin's talk in the pantry, etc. I think he got the "polite, never quite me...

Funny you should mention that line. I found it extraordinarily rude, unwarranted, unfunny, and outside Bilbo's character. It is certainly unlike any humor that Tolkien would include. I mean, why does Bilbo think Gandalf is not so good of a wizard, anyway? He previously expressed admiration for his ...

Oh, I don't think he should have aped the LOTR style. That's not it. For example, I generally disliked the over-prostheticized dwarves in LOTR. I just think that PJ has a peculiarly clownish way of translating the "lighter fare" of the Hobbit to the visual realm. Axe-in-the-head, Grinchy ...
