Re: Rings of Power Reviews
I'd like to try a small survey - why do you read reviews? Do you rely on reviews to decide whether to watch the show? Once you start watching, do you continue reading reviews? It usually depends but in general I rarely read reviews before watching a film or a tv. Most reviews just share too much of...

Re: Rings of Power Reviews
Thanks for the Fimi review, V. I really enjoyed it and find myself agreeing with it. (The addressing others by their species name bothers me a lot and the Dr. Who analogy is quite appropriate.)

Re: Episode 5 (Spoilers, including discussion of the preview)
I didn't find Galadriel training Númenórean first-years to be that egregious. Yes it's trope-y and especially came into Hollywood through Wuxia films, but it was finally a scene that reflected Galadriel's experience in contrast to how she's been acting the past 4 episodes. In this episode she also s...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
It's a false equivalence imo. There's clearly an effort to drive people to the right given the clear pattern established between giving mere casting opportunities and the inevitable knee-jerk, vitriolic reaction to the same which eventually gets co-adapted by entire fandoms. Who is doing that for th...

Re: Episode 5 (Spoilers, including discussion of the preview)
This episode will probably have a lot of mixed reactions because it has some of the biggest and pointless deviations from Tolkien's texts - if true. I'm talking about the whole Silmaril-Mithril connection. BUT I do not know how much of that to actually believe as true. The very first thing that Elro...

Re: The Stranger of Udûn? - New Info and the Identity of Meteor Man
Based on the latest episode I think it's safe to assume that The Stranger is either one of the Istari (the power over beasts and trees and performing spells) or the Man on the Moon. (The camera lingers too long on the fullmoon as he gazes at the night sky and then there's a hard match-cut of the moo...

Is he someone of note? Can't say I have heard of him but I don't know what to make of the Twitter thread because all it says to me about the article is "I have 40 years of experience reading Tolkien and writing books so my article is the definitive consensus on why this show sucks and you're de...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
I think I posted this in the wrong thread, apologies for that. Too out of touch with posting in forums. :D Just my brief thoughts on the 4 episodes so far. I'll delete the post in the other thread. ______________ So far I think this has been much better than I'd expected it to be based on all the pr...

Re: Episode 4 (Spoilers)
If I'm honest, I'd like the theme of the Númenórean's desire for deathlessness to make its way into the story more gradually. Clearly due to the time compression they're reworking and rearranging a lot of the events and ideas of the Second Age to a specific generation. I don't think the Numenoreans'...

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
I saw this news a while back and while I don't know a lot more about this, but those images look promising. And I have always thought that animation is the most plausible way to adapt any and all of the First Age - or related smaller LotR stories. It's the ideal form imo in which myths and dreams ar...

Re: Episode 4 (Spoilers)
Episode 4 was really the best so far and feels like the show coming into it's own, Númenor as well finally felt like a real place. (But I wish it's halls and interiors looked more grand, intimidating and decorated even. Denethor's hall in RotK looks so much more expansive than Míriel's throne room) ...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
The harfoots, for example, have deep and complicated nomadic customs, that can be both beautiful and brutal. (And as an aside, they’ve managed to make a completely invented storyline one of the most Tolkienesque in the series!) while at the same time finding the similarity between Sadoc Burrow's sp...

I'm not sure where to put it, but I found this on the Rings of Power subreddit: A constantly updating list for checking the show's accuracy to Tolkien's texts - https://www.reddit.com/r/LOTR_on_Prime/comments/x6gp31/rop_tolkien_lore_compatibility_index_eps_1_2/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=...

Re: The Stranger of Udûn? - New Info and the Identity of Meteor Man
I haven't followed much of the leaks, but my first thought (and it's a weird one) was that he might be Tom Bombadil. Certainly contradicting with his origins as one of the firsts to walk the earth, but it felt like it given the way the trees and beasts alike deferred to him, and the death of the fir...

Re: Rings of Power Reviews
Back in time? 😁 I have not seen it yet and I already have very low expectations, but I'm excited to get back to talking and debating Tolkien again if only for a few weeks! (I have forgotten so much of it) Eitherways, I'm glad we have that Bear McReary soundtrack atleast which I really loved. Even if...
