When I reread the LOTR for the first time after reading the Sil, my eyes were opened to what a long and complex history the world of the story actually had. Just as an example, when Treebeard sang his song about the lands where he used to walk but which don't exist any longer, I knew what and where ...

Well, I think that to play an ageless character, an actor in their thirties is a better choice than a teen.

I'm glad, but can't say that I'm really excited. Maybe when the actual release date is close I will feel some kind of excitement...

ROFL Lali!

Well, my two cents in a nutshell:

Having faith in a deity = not nuts.

Blindly believing just anything and everything you're told in the name of a deity = nuts.

I voted no. My parents were, and still are, nominally Lutheran, and I was raised the same. Our family never were active churchgoers though, and I think that especially my dad has stayed there just out of habit; my mom is probably more inclined to really be a believer. Over the years, I rather became...

A Bollywood Hobbit?

Heh, Shahrukh Khan for Bilbo! =:)

Hey, at least he would be about the right age at 45, and he wouldn't be too tall to play a hobbit... :D

And, judging from a few battle scenes that I've seen, they could do a quite impressive Battle of the Five Armies. :P

Can't say that I'm surprised.

He'll probably do a decent job, like he did with the LOTR. I just hope that this time, he'll stay away from exaggeration, which I think was the biggest fault in the LOTR movies. (Oh, and no fart jokes either, please.)

Gungnir posted this on TORC today:
From Ian McKellen's twitter feed this weekend, referring to The Hobbit...
"Sets are ready, script ready and movie is casting this month. Fans are not to worry”
So, apparently, something is going on in the background.

Makes me wonder why you didn't take up acting as more than a hobby in the first place...

She has indeed; I believe that at least one Danish edition of the LOTR has been published with her illustrations. And, even the Professor himself has approved her drawings - in the 1960s, she sent a few of them to him under a pseudonym.

Hm, Viggo has done a lot of other work beside the LOTR movies.

Also, Margrethe II is a great Tolkien fan. :D

Management by Sauron: Different types of Leaders in the LOTR

Today, there was an article and the interview of the writer of an interesting book that will be published next week: Management by Sauron, Sormusten herran johtamisopas (Management by Sauron, A Guide to Leadership in the Lord of the Rings) by Harri V. Hietikko. This book is based on his Ph.D. thesis...

We may admire the high and mighty - the Elves and Númenóreans of our world - but, in the end, it's the Everyman, people like us, that r...
