Re: Tolkien Publications

If by "magazine" you are referring to journals that publish papers about Tolkien, some that I am aware of are Tolkien Studies , MythLore , The Journal of Tolkien Research , VII: Journal of the Marion E. Wade Center , and Mallorn: The Journal of the Tolkien Society . I have had papers publ...

Tolkien Publications

I recently discovered that my upcoming book is larger than I thought it would be. I am looking to reduce its size. I have lore and movie-related sections that I would like to submit to a Tolkien-related website, or perhaps a magazine even. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Adapting Tolkien

I think this is the quote that you are thinking of, which is also talked about in Carpenter's biography. SA back-wash from the Convention was a visit from an American film-agent (one of the adjudicating panel) who drove out all the way in a taxi from London to see me last week, filling 76 S[andfiel...

Re: Adapting Tolkien

Doug Anderson asked me to review the new book Adapting Tolkien: Proceedings of The Tolkien Society Seminar 2020 , edited by Will Sherwood for the Journal of Tolkien Research, and I thought folks might find it of interest. https://scholar.valpo.edu/journaloftolkienresearch/vol14/iss1/4/ Great summar...

Re: Arnor or Gondor?

I'm not much on military matters, but I would have to say that the answer is Gondor. Arnor didn't last very long as an intact kingdom, quickly disintegrating into smaller, competing realms. And it was Gondor that sent aid to King Araphant of the North-Kingdom, to the wonder of both Men and Elves: ‘...

Arnor or Gondor?

My 11-year-old so has read The Hobbit and has recently started FOTR and the questions are rolling in. He loves the military aspects of Middle-earth He asked me who was stronger militarily at their peak, Gondor or Arnor, and I could not give him an answer because I don't know. Did Tolkien give us the...

Re: New Years and LOTR on 4 K

So we just finished the first disk of TT and I have to say I can never watch LOTR on anything but 4 k from here on out. It just won't be the same. I love it and recommend it to anyone.

Re: Michael Martinez's Interviews with Tolkien Scholars

Several weeks ago, the well-known Tolkienist Michael Martinez (hi Michael!) started a new Interview with Tolkien Scholars series. The first interview, on October 14, 2011, was with Janet Brennan Croft, the editor of Mythlore and the author of War and the Works of J.R.R. Tolkien , winner of the Myth...

Re: Book of material written by Tolkien edited by Carl Hostetter

I did warn you (even before it was published) that "there is an aspect to my review that I am fairly sure that you will disagree with. And that is okay." I thought that Carl's response to my review was measured and reasonable. There is an ongoing debate going on about this issue. The tabl...

Re: Book of material written by Tolkien edited by Carl Hostetter

Sorry I should have been clearer. By 'new one', I mean the one that is just about to come out. Janet wrote on Monday: "Mythlore #139 should be going to the printer later this week; it'll be at least another week before subscribers see it online or in their email, and a bit longer before paper ...

Re: The Keys of Middle-earth

I assume you mean Unfinished Tales , not "lost tales." Though I would love an illustrated version of The Book of Lost Tales (which I am currently rereading as part of an effort to read the entirety of HoMe consecutively in preparation for reviewing the upcoming book The Nature of Middle-e...
