I liked Daredevil, but I didn't take to the other associated shows Jennifer Jones and Like Cage.
However the show I have been watching most this week is The Grand Tour, one probably shouldn't admit to it in polite company, but it's a show which I find consistently lol funny

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Caught an interesting if slightly unsatisfying documentary on netflixs last night, "I am your Father" which was a crowdfunded film about the life of David Prowse, focusing unsuprisingly on his time as Darth Vader. The thesis of the film on which I was sold was that Lucas had treated Prowse...

Re: The Band of Heaven
The second great Crimso bassist/vocalist to go in a couple of months John Wetton, perhaps more famous for his time with Asia, at the all to young age of 67. Did the vocals on a couple of my absolute favourite all time songs ever, Starless - see post above for a modern interpretation and the Night Wa...

Re: The Band of Heaven
We also have to say farewell to Overend Watts, the bass player of Mott the Hoople. Famed for his absurd platform boots, over the top custom guitars, and the great shapes he would throw on the stage, whilst not encumbered by said footwear of course. the Hoople were a big part of my growing up and alt...

Re: Fidel Castro
I am not going to argue through every detail because we will never see eye to eye on this, but lets just take a look at a couple of points. I am quoting from the neo-liberal playbook, but as it is a playbook that has been winning games for two centuries, I don’t see the problem. That depends entirel...

Re: Fidel Castro
And forgetting all the other stuff for a minute lets go back to the notion of an equitable society. The reality is as follows. During the period 1945 to 1979, the gap between the rich and the poor in the developed world narrowed, since 1979, no matter what complexion of governments have been in pow...

Don't forget his early ground-breaking work with King Crimson. Truly a seminal artist. That I will never forget, aged about 14 being introduced in the Court of the Crimson King, KC are a band who I have stayed with through the years, and although they are older than me they really still rock out ht...

Re: The Band of Heaven
So Greg Lake of the angelic voice is now among the angels. Maybe his best Epitaph should be his performance of the song of the same name, but I suppose most people will remember him for "I believe in Father Christmas" which I reckon is one of the best Christmas songs, - And since we are co...

Re: Trump's America
A buddy of mine has been proselyitizing on social media about what a smart guy Mattis is, he worked for him directly at CentCom for a couple of years and I guess he should know. Perhaps it will be good thing if Trump appoints a Sec of Defense who has the courage to tell him, no you are not going to ...

Re: Fidel Castro
I would suggest my own views to be centre of the left, rather than left of centre, in that I believe in a mixed economy, local representation, state ownership of strategic resources, a free national health service and progressive taxation, I believe strongly in inclusion, and free speech. Most of al...

Thanks Nin, I agree with what you are saying. My position on this is simple, The Guardian is left wing only to the extent that most of the rest of the British media would be Gengis Khan apologists.if he were around(except that he is a foreigner of course). That is not to say the Liberal party has no...

Re: 2017 French Presidential Election
I am seeing much of the same debate here, although I suspect a fair bit of it is being driven by journo's who got both Brexit and Trump wrong and are looking for the next bandwagon to jump on. What surprises me is that no-one has switched on to the fact that these two represent the same interest gro...

Re: Fidel Castro
Here's an article from a left-wing British paper: Forget Fidel Castro’s policies. What matters is that he was a dictator It's a view that I agree with. Whatever Castro achieved (and I won't deny that his regime had its achievements) others were able to do the same without forced labour camps, execu...

I am not an expert on Herriot, so as to the actuality I couldn't really say, how truthful his tales were. the book Luke was mentioned in is https://www.amazon.com/James-Herriots-Yorkshire-Beloved-Veterinarian/dp/0312439709 They are talking about a ruin on the Drovers Road of an Inn called Lime Kiln ...

Re: 2016 United States Election
that's what the left may have said, but the evidence is that they haven't "walked the talk" which is why the core vote has been affected, mainly by apathy, but increasingly desperate people have grasped at the lies of the demagogues

I enjoy watching programmes about the natural world, I find them very relaxing, and although I have a biased, the stuff done by the Beeb's natural history unit has always been great. I have just watched the first and second episodes of Planet Earth 2 in HD, the quality of the filming is unbelievable...
