Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

Maybe Fellowship of Fans is getting bad info and they've achieved an outsized prominence in the community by giving a few smaller accurate leaks. And possibly by getting some of their associates as moderators on the LotR Prime reddit (at least I think I I saw this? If so it really seems like a confl...

Re: My top 50 albums by decade

Ha, I understand. Part of the reason I haven't done lists for them yet is there's so much there it's intimidating to even try!

My top 50 albums by decade

So for a small music forum I post on, I made some top 50 albums of the decade lists as part of a project where we all submitted decade lists that were combined into one big list for the decade by a point system. I did 80s, 90s, and 00s - in case you're wondering "what about the 60s and 70s?&quo...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I hope they're not casting every single ring-bearer, would spread the series awfully thin. The posters add up to 23 though, so that's probably not what's going on (there are 20 rings of power).

Re: Escaping the Echo Chamber

Well I guess I'll make a rare post on this board...Goldberg apologized, but she appeared to backtrack again at the end of the Colbert interview where she said (paraphrasing) "the Nazis were lying when they said it's about race, it was white people fighting." Why would she double down like ...

Re: Middle-earth [formerly LotR] in New Media

So this is several years old now, but I've been watching On Cinema at the Cinema. It's sort of a comic parody of film buffs, Siskel/Ebert, and Youtuber/podcaster/fandom culture all at once. It's not for everyone, but if you have the right sense of humor it can be hysterically funny at times. And thi...

Re: Serenity and Firefly

I used to be a Firefly fanatic, got really into it in college and would get upset about its cancellation. I still like it and still consider myself a fan, but I've cooled on it somewhat and don't love it as much as I used to. It's a combination of things: I've gotten more into Star Trek, which I use...

Re: The Two Towers as the casual favorite

By the way, I don't mean "casual" as derogatory, in fact I think non-book fans can have some of the most interesting perspectives on how much the movies succeed and the themes they get across. Knowledge of and attachment to the books can predispose us to evaluate parts of the films either ...

The Two Towers as the casual favorite

In my experience talking with non-readers (also including people who maybe read the books once a long time ago) in person and to a lesser degree what I've seen online, The Two Towers is the most common favorite of the trilogy. I've had conversations where people were shocked when I said Two Towers w...

Re: Revisiting Rings

Ironically, I think the greater limitations of c. 2000 CGI probably contributed to the high quality of the visual effects work – they were forced to come up with practical effects as workarounds and integrate them. Watching RotK in particular, I’m still amazed at how well the models are blended wit...

Re: First teaser trailer (and full title) released for Amazon series

I think you could pull every major Second Age event off (even Aldarion and Erendis) with a reasonable moderate level of compression if you had a mid-series time jump where you refreshed the entire human cast.

First teaser trailer (and full title) released for Amazon series

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhqGCPMfkNM&feature=youtu.be A lot of very abstract and stylized footage that probably won't be in the final show, it's neat though. The big reveal is that the title is "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." The voiceover is the ring poem (which I must...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I'll say the part about throwing flowers while Isildur rides out is the most offensive in the one you posted, because it's such a hamfisted LotR reference to Faramir's departure in the Jackson films. In a situation that has almost nothing in common with RotK's (regardless of whether he's going to he...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I certainly hope so, or Amazon is feeding them false info. Still they have been right in the past (such as Second Age Hobbits and casting/crew things), but it is of course possible some of their sources are less reliable than others.

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

The meteor one I'd only picked up by reading discussion but I checked and here it is from FoF, in the first two minutes. A character comes on meteor/comet and is found by Harfoots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsjc4zNbKB0 The child Galadriel prologue one (which I actually sort of think is even wo...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I've pretty much stopped following the rumors, they've been pretty bad for awhile. Hopefully they're wrong but they might not be. The last time I checked there was something about a character arriving in Middle-earth with a meteor? I believe there was also a rumor awhile back about child Galadriel c...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

Found out Fellowship of Fans is a moderator on the LOTR prime Reddit, which seems uh...ethically questionable but what do I know. So that might be boosting their visibility more than they deserve. They did get some earlier leaks right on personnel but it's possible they could be wrong about this for...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

Ok, I watched some of the video. Galadriel fights off some Númenórean guards before getting captured by Elendil (?!) who brings her to Queen Míriel and Galadriel gives a big speech. The elves are in trouble and want Númenor's help, Númenor doesn't like elves. My speculative guess is that Galadriel r...

Latest rumor is Galadriel in Númenor early on. If true, which is still an if, I've officially stopped giving this show the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I've generally been more optimistic...but if true, I am very skeptical about whether the Second Age can be done justice with the level of timeline compression this would require.
