Thomas started as a romance writer and the further one goes back in her bibliography, the more they veer toward romance. It gets so it's too much.
Deaana Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell books are fun too, but lightweight.

Ah thank you, Imp. I was wondering about some of the covers and trying to reconcile them with lady Sherlock! The fantasy one seems to be fine, so far. YA, though. Still, a fun read till now.

I just finished all of Deanna Rayburn’s Julia Grey series and Veronica Speedwell series. She is obviously inspired by Amelia Peabody, and not *as* good, but they were still fun to read. And well written - I’ll forgive a lot for that attribute.

The free Tor ebook today is The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal.

I picked up the first three Murderbot Dairies books from their previous free ebook event. Despite the name, they are not at all gory, and approach the entire "cybernetic entity acquiring personhood" from a novel perspective of not equating personhood with humanity. The world building is cool, and the protagonist has a dry sense of humor that I enjoyed.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

BTW, if you liked Murderbot, then you will looove the Imperial Radch trilogy by Ann Leckie: Ancillary Justice, Ancillary Sword and Ancillary Mercy.

I need to get the last published Murderbot. I think I'll splurge for a paper version from a local store. I can always leave it at one of the lovely tiny libraries around here.

So, in the last Tor newsletter, there was a mention of “Cosmere” universe. Has anybody read them? Any recommendation?

Brandon Sanderson has written quite a lot of books loosely connected in a multiverse called the Cosmere.
I've read the Mistborn series which is excellent, and the Stormlight Archives which are very, VERY good. "The Way of Kings" is the first one in the Stormlight series while "The Final Empire" is the first in the Mistborn series. I've also read several stand-alone novels by Sanderson and haven't found one yet that I don't like. The Stormlight series is best, in my opinion.
