No, it's a real room. A library/parlor in the Victorian style. I could post photos of it later.

You probably don't know that my house and studio were destroyed by a flood two years ago. It has taken all that time, and the worth of several coats of mithril, to put it back together. As suits the many contrasts of my temperament, some of it is decorated in the minimalist Japanese style and some of it is Victorian, which means fussy and absurdly overdone.

The rest is a mixture of steampunk, Disneyland and the Addams family. Plus, the living room has a fountain in which Captain Nemo's Nautilus is being attacked by a giant squid.

And neon. Neon is an absolute necessity.

I would love to see it, Whistler.

I’m sorry you lost so much.

The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. Oh, it's much more fun now. But we had to live in other people's houses for two years!
I have also taken early retirement, and I have no more responsibilities of any kind for the rest of my life.
Which is good, in its way.

TELLLLL me what it’s like. I can’t wait. Thinking of a time when I can write all day....

You clearly have been through a lot, and whatever you enjoy now, you have certainly paid for. I’m sorry.

I have close to 11 years to go before I dare retire, but at least I have some control over it. And we can now afford for me to spend several hours a day writing!

I am very likely to die before I am able to retire.

Just sayin'. :wooper:

With the big changes you’ve made in your health, I think you’ll have a long, adventurous retirement.

Medicare is the vital piece of the puzzle for us, and we won’t both have it until late 2023. That’s when Tom can retire.

View From the Bughouse

Thomas Hart Benton (who taught Jackson Pollock, oddly enough) described modern art as "bughouse painting."

So this one was painted from the Bughouse.

It's not so bad here. On Tuesdays we get chocolate pudding.

You have such an amazing range of styles, Whistler! Awesome!

Good to have you back here.
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

Ah, thank you!

I have several more styles that will appear, sooner or later.

I would like to think that my versatility is evidence of awesome talent, but I fear that it's just multiple personality disorder.

That last one is the one most in line with my personal tastes. It feels like some early Kandinsky, who happens to be my favoritest artist. :)

Hey, those look like they were inspired by Kandinsky!

;)

I really like that last one. Is that digital or painted?

I'm posting only digital here.

That last one would have been a nightmare to paint in traditional media. I wouldn't even have made the attempt.

Landscape For the Little Tramp

Tolkien called Hitler "the Little Tramp" in mockery of his Chaplinesque mustache. Perfect name, I think!

Anyway, Hitler declared that anyone painting in a modern style (for example, painting a green sky with blue grass) ought to be sterilized. So I painted this picture as a way of telling him to go to hell.

He already has, but I won't let that fact deprive me of the pleasure.

J.R.R. Tolkien wrote:To make a Secondary World inside which the green sun will be credible, commanding Secondary Belief, will probably require labour and thought, and will certainly demand a special skill, a kind of elvish craft. Few attempt such difficult tasks. But when they are attempted and in any degree accomplished then we have a rare achievement of Art: indeed narrative art, story-making in its primary and most potent mode.
