I thought we could use a thread to keep track of the amazing cultural events happening online during the time of coronavirus.

Right now, April 18, The Phantom of the Opera is streaming on YouTube. This is a 2011 recording from Alberts Hall.

For the US viewers, video will be take down Sunday 4/19 11am Pacific / 2pm Eastern. Earlier in the UK, I think.

That's awesome, Al! Thank you. There has been a number of times that I have wanted to post Facebook videos but were unable to (though sometimes they are also available as youtube videos). Let's do a test. The great Jorma Kaukonen has been doing live streams every Saturday, and his longtime partner in Hot Tuna, Jack Cassidy, has been playing along from home.

Awesome, Al! Thanks.

I saw it on big screen when a local independent theater was doing a series of shows from National Theater. Cumberbatch was the monster and amazing.

Unfortunately, my husband was not prepared and I think he was traumatized a little. Probably shouldn't be watched by children and impressionable adults.

Here's a headline I have not anticipated ever reading.

At any moment, the urge to sing Lion Sleeps Tonight is just a whim away... a whim away, a whim away...

Does that mean the event has already happened? Or that people are contributing to the go fund me page beforehand?

The article says the reading is tomorrow, Friday May 8, but it doesn't seem to give a time.

Here is more info at his GoFundMe page for the project.

Starting at 10am on Friday 8th May BST (5am EST, 2am PST), I’ll be embarking on a marathon reading of The Hobbit - from cover to cover, there and back again. The entire book. A Hobbitathon!

Although he says "EST" and "PST" those are the correct times for EDT and PDT.
