I have a recording of Yo Yo Ma playing Bach, and it's quite pleasant. Do you think you might be able to get him to play for your wedding?

For that matter, why not get the whole crew that played for the inaugeration? At least it wouldn't be so cold that they would have to fake it like they did then.

Bob Chilcott's "love", word's by Alfred Lord Tennyson...

You'd only need 6 singers...

Coincidentally, I have set up a vocal consort that sings stuff like this... We'd be willing to come and sing if you paid expenses... ;)

Seriously, what about "Mad Men" retro-chic? 'A Summer Place,' Tammy's in Love,' 'Days of Wine and Roses'....

One of the neat thing about Pixar's films is that they realize 'square' records can be hip.

After some consulting with my singer (finally, I got ahold of him!!!), we've settled on Handel's "Ombra mai fu". It's a pretty song, and the context of it (man falls in love with a tree and sings an aria) sealed the deal. I'm not sure how S will feel about the opera bit, but he's going to love the subject. :D

A love song to a tree? If I'd known you were thinking inter-species, I could have suggested "Ben," the love song to a rat.

:)

I'm sure that will be a lovely choice.

In retrospect, I wish we'd played "Wild Thing" at our wedding. Perhaps as we danced down the aisle.

I hope your wedding was all you hoped for, River. :)

I sang at my brother-in-law's wedding, let's see, uh, four years ago, I think. It was an outdoor wedding on a beautiful summer day among some shady trees in the foothills. It was a small gathering of friends and family.

Given the setting, and the lack of accompaniment (I sang it a capella), I thought John Denver's 'Annie's Song' would fit the bill. It did.

The funny part of the experience was that there was a DJ who wanted to mic me. I declined, as I would likely have been heard for miles around. Afterwards he still expressed the desire that he would have liked to have mic'ed me. Silly DJs! He also thought I should go into the wedding music business, but I prefer to just perform for friends and family.

It was very lovely, thank you.

The aria went over nicely. Those who recognized it thought it was pretty and got a bit of giggle in the bargain, those who didn't just thought it was pretty. A win all around.
