The Tolkien Translation Game!

Dark were my dreams of late?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

I have a feeling it comes from when Aragorn leaves for the Paths of the Dead and he said goodbye to Éomer. I can't think of the line, though.
Mornings wouldn't suck so badly if they came later in the day.

Uff.

Not even Frelga's. That's what I thought of. Does the translator mangle sentence length too?

"Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens"
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I just ran that quote and the final result would be totally impossible to guess - somehow it comes back with just "How in the dark"!Voronwë the Faithful wrote:"Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens"

Really? That's weird...why did I get a totally different result from you?

Does it give the same result every time? In the tests that I did, it does, but I see when I run the "Faithless is he ... " phrase I get the same result as yov. Maybe it changes after some time?
All right, I swear to God this is what it came up with with the quote that I inserted:
"It is a device does not love a nice hand job."
And a hint: although it is a quote in one of the three major published works by Tolkien, it was not to the best of my knowledge ever actually written by J.R.R. Tolkien

It could be using a different seed value for the convergence process, for each browser instance.
And as for V's quote, I will think as soon as I stop snickering.
Congrats on getting the last one right V

Is it Manwë to Fëanor "Love not too well the devices of thy hand?" (Paraphrasing badly from memory)

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
You are on the right track, though the quote is not quite right, and the speaker and speakee are also not quite right (it is a Vala speaking to a Noldo, just not Manwë or Fëanor). Nonetheless, I think it is close enough to give it to you since you clearly are thinking of the right quote. It is actually Ulmo speaking to Turgon: "Love not too well the work of thy hands and the devices of thy heart." And so far as can be determined from HoMe, Tolkien never actually wrote that line, it is an editorial invention by Christopher or Guy Kay.
Your go again!

Yeah, right quote, wrong... well, everything else!
Site down right now. I'll try again in the morning.
