Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it: "The new host that we had tidings of has come first, from over the River by way of Andros, it is said. They are strong: battalions of Orcs of the Eye, and countless companies of Men of a new sort that we have not met before."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
No... much earlier.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it someone from the Fellowship speaking?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Bringing the quote to this page:
They will not. And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.
What y'all know: It's a two part quote. The first sentence is only shortened. The second is.... what it is. The river is Anduin.
Hint: original quote talks about side(s) of the river as well.
ETA: Response to V: No. But it is being spoken to a member of the Fellowship.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it spoken by someone who speaks very slowly in the movie?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Do you mean Treebeard? No...
I don't remember if this character spoke slowly or not. He didn't speak much in the movie..

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
No, I didn't mean Treebeard, I meant Celeborn, who spoke in a comically, ridiculously slow voice in his few lines in the film. However, I can't find a quote that seems to meet your parameters
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
But it is Celeborn!

I got that, but I'm not finding it (though I found one that I thought might be it that was separated by a semi-colon, not a colon). I'll keep looking, but maybe someone else will find it first!

Maybe its this one: "Yet they will not give you counsel: in the end you must leave them and the River, and turn west – or east."
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

This quote was stated by the speaker in a different language but the English translation is given and that is what I used.
It shines at the appointed time.

Is it a star and is the time the hour of our meeting?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Yup. Can you give the quote (in English or in Quenya)?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Oh, oops, I do apologize!
This got abbreviated from a two-clause sentence.
