Was that Frodo speaking to Gandalf in Rivendell?

"Thank goodness I did not realize the horrible danger!"

talking about what would have happened if they hadn't gotten the Morgul-blade out of his body?

Yup, that's it! I think that is a new record for the fastest guess. Tremendous job!

That phrase always stuck in my mind, that's why I was able to recognize it.

So when I ran this through the TranslationParty, it just disappeared and returned an empty string. So I did the two sentences separately, and it actually returned results. So here they are - remember, it's a two-sentence quote that I split into separate sentences:
Did you really think you could beat me?
- You have not been coerced?
Edit: if it helps, in the original, the first sentence does end with a question mark, but the second ends with an exclamation mark.

Is it this one:

Pippin to Frodo:
"Did you really think you had thrown dust in all our eyes? You have not been nearly careful enough or clever enough for that!"

Thank you. I have to let you know that I just read this part....I ran out of reading material on the latest business trip, and since I have LOTR downloaded on my iPhone kindle I started re-reading it. Am about to reach Bree. My last re-read I never went beyond Lothlórien, this time maybe I will.

Ok. This is just WEIRD:

They will not. And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

This was a two-part quote (with : in between). Together, TP couldn't translate at all. Separately, the first part became shortened. The second part morphed into that weird long sentence. Some key words remain.

WHAT is TP reading in its spare time??

Well there’s also Scots Gaelic, but Irish is also Gaelic.

Interesting. My understanding was that Scots Gaelic was similar enough to Irish that speakers of each could understand each other (with some difficulty) but I did not understand that Irish was also considered Gaelic.

Thanks, Al!

Oh and I missed that there was a new quote. Asnapper? Samaria?

That's a great way to come up fantasy names. Asnapper. Atilapia. Ashark.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

That new quote has kind of an Old Testament ring to it.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Is "river" one of the words that was preserved from the original?
