The Hobbit strategy games heading to your browser and mobile this fall

The Hobbit is coming to your browser and mobile this fall with the release of games developed by Kabam and published by Warner Bros. Both are multiplayer strategy games based on the film. The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth will release for mobile and The Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age for web browsers. The latter has a beta inbound and you can sign up here.

An image of Tauriel can now be seen, of all places, on a toy box (apparently dating from the time before the decision to break the film before Mirkwood):

I did actually post about the Tauriel action figure last week, in the general news thread, although Tolkiendrim have removed the article now:

but TORn have seemingly now received permission to reveal, and there is a front page article on them...

Sorry, Elen. I forgot that you posted that. Although I think that Tolkiendrim picture was different from what they have on ToRN now, though I could be wrong.

I must say, I like that picture from the reverse.

No worries! And apparently Herr-der-Ringe have also reported that many merchandise products got a recall from Warner Bros. following the decision to cut Film 1 earlier, including:

Beorn and Beorn’s house
Mirkwood and the Spiders
Thranduil’s Fortress
Thranduil
Legolas
Tauriel
Mirkwood Guards
Barrel Escape plus Arrival at River Shore (including Bard)

This is from a post on TORn though no link to HDR has been given so far...

One wonders how the tie-in books have been affected - whether they had already gone to print, and if so, whether they will let them stand or reprint...

Hmm. Evidently the end will be between the eagles' rescue from the burning trees and before Beorn. Perhaps with a long shot of the immensity of Mirkwood stretching across the eastern horizon? PJ likes those shots.

With the Lonely Mountain visible behind it and Dol Guldur to the south, I bet. He also like geographic compression.

Speaking of bets, would anyone care to wager on the number of oh-so-clever critics who will make comments about the film leaving the characters hanging and/or up in the air if the film does indeed end this way?

So United Cutlery will be releasing at least a few new repro weapons this year: Orcrist (a no-brainer), Gandalf's staff, Sting (without the engraving), Glamdring (not sure how it's different). Reissues of LOTR models of Glamdring (compare and contrast

), Anduril, and Legolas's knives (which I imagine didn't change in the intervening decades

are also slated.

I saw this at TORN and a few other likely sources, but they all seem to come from the same press releases, so until October and the official release for pre-order our knowledge is limited.

Amazing New Merchandise For THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Revealed

Weta have unveiled their first wave of merchandise for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and it not only includes some great statues and artwork, but also replicas of some of the most iconic maps and weapons which will be used in the film.

My LOTR collection is stored in a ten by ten by ten storage locker that is absolutely jam packed. I bought tons of stuff ranging from the cheap toy figures to the Sideshow figures by the score and full sized weapon and armor reproductions. I have over 15 signed film posters signed by over fifty members of the cast along with all three signed scripts, tons of autographed 8 x 10's and lots and lots and lots of stuff that I cannot even remember I have without going in that locker.

The point is that this time around, I have decided to be much more selective. I am very disappointed that the Bridge Direct six inch figures are twice the price of the Toy Biz figures and that the three inch line is the main engine.

I am even more let down that the WETA sculptured figures are two the three times in price than the Sideshow figures were.

This time will be different. I was in the store just yesterday and came across the toy line and looked it over and bought nothing.

Now if somebody does Armies of Middle Earth: Hobbit - they have a customer for life.

Looking forward to the Games Workshop Miniatures myself... at least they're the same supplier as during LOTR and their quality is consistently good to excellent.

Like you I will be very, very selective this time out. My LOTR collection takes up a lot of space, but as far as I can tell by browsing ebay is largely worthless, save for a few items. Not to mention, stuck in storage as it is, the collection is pretty much useless to me.
