According to TheHutt, another rated feature:

- Recruiting the Five Armies (11:01)
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Is that just the US date or worldwide?

The post over on TORn also linked to the BR forum where someone has posted an image of the HOBBIT Trilogy Boxed set, (TE only) which Warner will also release on the same day!

Your guess is as good as mine!

Shouldn't the trilogy box set say "There and Back Again"?

MARCH 24th!!!!!!! All right!!!!!!!
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Hmmm...according to TheHutt the European release dates are not before April, with Germany being April 23rd...

Oh well. I shall be holding out for the EE anyway...

TheHutt has also been ferretting around and uncovered this listing:
The Swiss shop (CeDe) has listed two interesting releases of The Hobbit Trilogy on BluRay. There are two versions: a 2D only (6 discs) and a 3D+2D (12 discs) in steelbook packaging. However, the most notable bonus is hidden in the description (marked bold by me):

Der Hobbit Trilogie (Steelbook + Bilbo's Journal / 6 Discs)
Der Hobbit 3D Trilogie (Steelbook + Bilbo's Journal / Real 3D + 2D / 12 Discs)

A facsimile copy of Bilbo's Red Book of Westmarch would indeed be a really nice extra to have.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the version that will be included with the BluRay set. Just a hunch. ;)

Is there a chance that the EE will be released much earlier this time, given that PJ doesn't have a new Hobbit film to deliver in December?

I doubt it. That didn't happen with RotK.

From TheHutt:
In Russia, both artworks for the 2D and the 3D version of the Hobbit trilogy box have been published. The 3D artwork was not sighted before:

Was that Ouroboros on the DVD cover intentional or a happy accident (cool ring + dragon design). I find it so fitting here.

Can you elaborate on why you think Ouroboros is a fitting image here?

I just thought both Smaug and the ring are manifestations of the same evil, the dragon had died but the ring lives on at the end of the Hobbit, and definitely the greed in human/elvish/dwarven hearts does and it's an eternal struggle.
Making a kind of ouroboros out of it as a symbol of continuity made sense in my head, especially for this version of the story where the ring is not just an innocent magical object.
