You know I have to say, for all its considerable downsides, one of the perks of living in Michigan in 2020 is getting to watch a state government be run by a trio of women who are both quite attractive and actual real-life heroes.

Who's the third? Gov. Whitner, Attorney General Nessel, and ? Isn't Michigan's Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist a man?

The various responses to the Trump campaign's brief in are in. Most are lawyerly and sober, but they all have some place where they address how nuts the appeal is. The best is this, from an organization called Democrats Abroad:

Is it a common practice to reference Monty Python in legal documents?

Cerin is still a member. You could PM her and ask her. I hope she reconsiders about posting here.

No, I think I can safely say that it is not!

The use of the example of post WWII Japanese soldiers is a poor one. They were brain-washed and it's not as if they staged any sort of come-back.

It's a bizarre analogy. The whole point of the Japanese hold-outs was that they didn't believe Japan could be defeated - they indoctrinated to the point that they couldn't accept reality.

And, as you say, it was an entirely fruitless exercise.

Not to mention the ultimately defeated big baddies in pop culture (the Death Star, the Kraken, and Thanos all come to mind).

This is an important article. Long, but important:

On a personal note, those who've been reading my posts for decades (!) might remember that I have a thorny relationship with my heritage, but I've never been prouder to be a Dutch guy from West Michigan.

I just came here to post the same link. It's very good.

I was quietly hoping that courage would break out in the Michigan GOP. Looks like that's what happened...and that poor canvasser is being punished for it. I wonder what will happen to the legislators who went to Washington.

Great article; thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed reading it, particularly after watching most of that meeting and being so impressed with Van Langevelde.

ETA: I just saw that my new BFF (thanks, River!) Brad Heath is also promoting that article.

From a group of law professors who have filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief in the Pennsylvania case (sorry, no Monty Python):
