"Song for Athene" by Taverner for Galadriel. The sentiment is just perfect, IMO.

The version he arranged for string orchestra and violin solo would be more appropriate, but I can't find it... Just use your imaginations!

Although, It could also be extremely appropriate at the Grey Havens! I'm thinking the string version for Galadriel, and then the vocal one when they're going West...

The text is as follows: Alleluia. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
Alleluia. Remember me O Lord, when you come into your kingdom.
Alleluia. Give rest O Lord to your handmaid, who has fallen asleep.
Alleluia. The choir of saints have found the well-spring of life, and door of paradise.
Alleluia. Life: a shadow and a dream.
Alleluia. Weeping at the grave creates the song:
Alleluia. Come, enjoy rewards and crowns I have prepared for you.

The music...

The strings version was arranged forNicola Benedetti, and to the best of my knowledge, the only recording in existeence is the one she did. (Which I got signed by her. :bow: )

That is beautiful!

(I am definitely less knowledgeable regarding choral music as opposed to orchestral music.)

And the text is surprisingly appropriate for Galadriel, considering it's taken from Christian texts!

Especially the last line and this:
Life: a shadow and a dream.
line.

May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest... Replace Angels with Ainu and you've got Tolkien right there!

It sounds Elvish, in the sense of being timeless, meditative, and beautiful.

Di - that's quite a coincidence, I only discovered the Tolkien Ensemble a week or so ago on Youtube. :)

Well, I never! :D :) I love the Evening in Rivendell CD -- I wasn't so keen on Night in Rivendell, it was a bit dirgey.

That Gondolin vid is hauntingly beautiful. :cry:

Was it Glorfindel who battled the Balrog as the Elves fled the city? I never can remember a darned thing about the events in Sil. :P

Anyway, :bawl: Wasn't Gondolin the last Elven realm to fall to the forces of Morgoth in the First Age? :(

Oh, yes, it was definitely Glorfindel who died killing the Balrog, and was later sent back to M-e. :)
