A Bookshelf (Updated August 04, 2006)

Post by TheTennisBallKid »

This is -- sort of -- the continuation of a thread Laureanna (narya) began on February 14, 2004 at TORC. Basically, it's an index of all significant threads, sorted topically. At the moment it's not neccessary because there aren't that many threads, but hopefully, one day ;), there will be many, many pages of threads and this *will* be helpful instead of just being another sticky. :P

Why do I do this? Because I enjoy it. :D

The title is the same one I used for my B77 thread, it's doesn't use the Dewey Decimal system (or anything even approximating it :P), so it's not A Library, just a bookshelf, and like my own bookshelves, the sorting system is very much my own. :P Hopefully it will be of aid to other people too though.

Enough rambling from me...

Stickied! (And thanks, ttbk :))

Great idea, ttbk.:) You may have seen the one I did for the Books forum at TORC (here)

But be warned, it can be all-consuming!. You might also want to consider doing it in an Excel spreadsheet or similar rather than just editing your post manually, because as it gets bigger that will give you the ability to re-sort and classify easily. You can cut and paste straight out of Excel into the phbb post format.

PM me if you want the spreadsheet I used. You're welcome to copy it if it suits you.

Great idea, thanks, ttbk - hehe, I didn't think we already had enough threads to warrant a list - this is cool! :D (Plus I guess starting the list early means less work on the whole. ;) )
However, I'd say that first mention for coming up with the idea belongs to scirocco, and I think it would be nice if you could add the link scirocco posted ( http://forums.theonering.com/viewtopic.php?t=69510 ) to the first post! :)

I must say, I also find scirocco's system of reference easier to use than laureanna's - threads are sorted alphabetically by subject, and also may be filed under different subjects, so when you are looking for info about Elves, you just look under "E" for Elves, not a descriptive heading like "characters", "legendarium", "books" or so.
but being a cheerful hobbit he had not needed hope, as long as despair could be postponed.
