I think our Newest Members are being properly greeted, but in case any are (like me) of the hops and barley persuasion, I brought a friend along to help out:
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

I think I ended up with the oven/mitt potholder thingy . . . and besides, the wine in that basket would only last a few hours . . .tolkienpurist wrote:

You were all given your own baskets! Every last one of you, except perhaps Jn . . .
And you know, it's always best to let someone taste suspect wine . . . just in case . . . y'know . . .

Is that really THE Mrs. Whistler??
It is so great to see you here!
We'll give your husband back to you as soon as he types up several reams of art critique and an interview with each of the characters in the Silmarilllion.
(How is your sister getting along? Have more neighbors returned?)
Jn
p.s. and we wouldn't stick you with the oven mit.
(I only ate one candy out of each box)

Mrs. Whistler! An honour to meet you.
Welcome to the Hall of Fire.
Divorce you say?!
Quel horror!
Can we not agree share Mr. Whistler with you?
A sort of joint custody arrangement.
What say you?

Yes.

Welcome, halplm!
And I mean that sincerely. We have just a slightly quieter tone over here than at B77 or in the old M00bies forum.
We're giving out welcome gifts. Would you like a pot holder or a bottle of wine?

Oh, horrors! What have I said!?pssst! Mrs. Whistler crocheted the pot holder.
I had a job once typesetting in the basement area of a print shop. The proprietor had absolutely no business acumen, and he would purchase these worthless out of date pieces of bulky equipment and cram them into the corners of this basement area. The dark room specialist had a disembodied doll's head that he would hide amongst the various nooks and crannies of the displaced hardware, to invariably startling effect when one was last expecting it. *wonders if these repressed traumatic memories will excuse her faux pas*
I'm sure the crochet work is top notch.
Cerin ... um ... are you comparing Mrs. Whistler to a disembodied doll's head in a dark corner?
Or just expressing your dislike of unpleasant surprise in general ....
Jn
p.s. I've met Mrs. Whistler is RL and she is thoroughly charming. I really do wish that she would post with us, and not just for the diamonds.
