Oh wow. Shetland ponies in cardigans!!
This is a picture of one of the birds of prey who live in our back yard. We irrigated the property today, and this guy just sat in the water for over an hour, which seemed odd. Luckily, though, I finally could get close enough to get a good picture. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?

"What do you fear, lady?" Aragorn asked.
"A cage," Éowyn said. "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”

Wow, I just googled "Cooper's Hawk" and it sure does look like my boy, here. I have a friend who used to travel the USA cataloging birds, and he will know for sure. A call is out to him... but I'll bet it's a Cooper's Hawk.

Turns out that it is probably a Sharp-shinned hawk, which is very hard to distinguish from a Cooper's hawk, apparently, except for its size. "According to the scale of the bird as compared to the grass", this guy is small enough to probably be a "Sharpie".
I knew my bird-watching buddy would know.

So maybe not really what "nature" means, but the natural cause & effect of family life hit my blog today in the form of an amazing session I just had to share:

Feel free to check it out.
I'll post actual nature photos later, I promise.

Some peace & tranquility would be nice... so I revisited this blog post I recently made, and realized I never shared it here, as I had promised:
