Corection: the kids Trudeau took to the showing were from the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario!
He also says the film is very good, as good as he hoped for!

I loved it, but it didn't move me emotionally in the way that LotR did/does. It does exactly what it says on the tin. Its Star Wars. Its fun, exciting, funny and breathtaking. And the final shot is one that PJ would be proud of! 
That's as close as I'll get to a spoiler.
I will say that I think everyone should go see it asap, as there are spoilers you really do NOT want to know going in. And this being 2015, you WILL be spoiled.
And now I'm off to read the spoiler thread to see if the synopsis was accurate!

I have tickets for my brother, Tom, and me to see it in Imax 3D on Sunday afternoon. Best of all, it's reserved seating. They aren't great seats, but it's stadium seating and that huge screen will still seem right in front of us (we're toward the back, not right in front: those were the only two options left).
This will be the first time I've ever strolled into a Star Wars film on opening weekend being certain I'll get a seat where I can see the whole screen. I hope this catches on, at least for special-occasion films. It's been considered un-American or something.

That sounds fun, Prim! I think you'll enjoy the IMAX 3D experience for this movie. I saw it in 2D but did think to myself during certain parts that it would be neat in 3D.

I had no expectations going in, and came out distinctly disappointed.

Using all available data from the last 94 years, we can conclude that there will be a full moon on Christmas if and only if a good Star Wars trilogy launched that year, and vice versa. Here's to 2034.

$528 million worldwide, $247 million in North America, in one weekend.
I'm sorry you were disappointed in the film, Maria. I was delighted. Can't wait for more, which is on the way. I think there's an "anthology" film, set right after the end of RotJ, coming out next year, and there are also some "origin" stories for some of the characters including Han. And we have to wait only two years, not three, for part 2 of the current trilogy.

Andurwhelmed.
The story is by and large a retread of the first film, and there are bits and pieces that work if they were their own stories, but overall it feels hollow. The villains are piss-poor, even execrable, and the original trilogy becomes meaningless. No real desire to watch the rest now.

Hey, don't apologize for someone else's work, Prim.
I'm a bit shaky on all the technical names for the process of writing and making movies... but it seemed to me the movie was almost completely lacking in character development. Why did anyone do what they did? I don't have much of a clue, and thus don't really care about the characters.
Your characters in your books, Prim, are so utterly real I had trouble reading the bad things that happened to them. The characters in these movies were so shallow that I wasn't much affected by their trials and tribulations.
