This one changed quite a bit, but I think it could be a fun one.

Although they lost by one point, the game was over and it was great to see them bounce back!

Sorry, I can recall all these random quotes but when it comes to actually finding them in the book I'm :?

Since the quote seems to describe the final tally of the orc-slaying contest, it's probably right after the battle. If that helps.

Which was my situation in the Pippin quote.

I think I found the quote. If I’m right, then I was right about it being right after the battle. So if you look at the beginning of the very next chapter, you should find it quickly.

Then that’s not the one I was thinking of. Here’s the one I found, but it’s too far from V’s quote.

“There was a battle here three nights ago, and here Legolas and I played a game that I won only by a single orc.”

If I'm right, I'll dedicate my win to Frelga or Inanna, whoever wants to go first. I only got it because of their hints.

You are right, and I realize that I misspoke when I was asked if it was Gimli and I said yes, when I should have said it was said to Gimli.
