Welcome, solicitr! :D

Breogan's OTHER claim to fame!

OMG! OMG! I just run into VIGGO MORTENSEN!!!!

Rarely have I laughed so loud as I did when I read that thread!! :rotfl:

Welcome to Hall of Fire!
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

LOL!!
Indeed, however, that claim to fame has changed a little bit - I have met him several times since that "infamous" moment and had drinks together :D (mind you, Im in no way saying we are *friends*)
He's a honorary citizen of León, he's now one of the "natives" :D

And thanks for the warm welcoming :D

Meli! Oh, Meli! There's somebody you have to meet. . . .
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

That line is going to haunt me till the day I die... :P
I'm actually considering having both the "send him to my tent" and the "vamos, no me jodas" engraved as my epitaph :P :rotfl:

Well, if you ever visit León in northern Spain, you may run into him "de vinos" - enjoying a glass of wine in any of the bars of the old town and stuffing his face with tapas ;)

<faints dead away>

We have tapas in Philadelphia, served by Flamenco dancers. He can sleep in my spare room.

I'm too old for him myself of course, but I have two beautiful daughters and only one of them is married.

With all due respect, I don't think Philadelphia tapas can compare to the ones served in León ;) There are no flamenco dancers, thank God... this is real Spain, not the one for tourists ;)

Bienvenidos, Breogan.

I am baby tuckoo, a su servicio.

Yes, I have been to Leon, for the very reason you state: that it is not for tourists.

I have also been to Santiago during the sin peregrino season and to Valladolid, la capital vieja. Burgos is the hometown of my amigo antiguo Jose Antonio Santo de Campos (now a prof at the Univ of Granada) and I visited him there in the winter of '72. A fine cathedral in the Gothic style, but I prefer the Romanesque of Campostella, thank you.

Conoces a la querida Berhael, ella de Madrid y de estas paginas bien acordada? Como todos, la echo de menos. Casada ya, no tarda mas por aqui.

I remember Santander, where I spent 6 weeks of intensive language study that seemed more like intensive liquid training. 'Twas a cultural immersion more: many of us were nearly drowned. Some actually drowned. Los ahogados returned to la patria; los demas nos quedamos un ano en el Complutense de Madrid.

I tried Flamenco; I tried the corrida. I cared for neither. I prefered the Parador de la Moncloa, a student bar near the metro stop.

Basta.

Always nice to have a lady of Castilla Vieja on the board.

"A su servicio", eh?

:suspicious:

He requires diaper changes, Breogan. More often that one would suppose.

Just sayin'.

:P
"What do you fear, lady?" Aragorn asked.
"A cage," Éowyn said. "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”

Baby Tuckoo,

I am not a lady of Castilla la Vieja... I am Galician, from Pontevedra (well, at least the half of me that is from Spain, the other half is Irish ;)) Call me the Celtic Lady, if you will ;)

Also, people from León would murder you (no kidding) for putting them in the same sack with Valladolid. Surely you know was one of the oldest kingoms in Spain, the Asturleonese kingdom, with León as capital shortly after the beginning of the Reconquista. Let's say they didnt take well being merged into the Kingdom of Castilla ;)
Burgos Cathedral is beautiful, yes, but imo in no way can't compare León's - unless you prefer German Gothic style to French :D

Btw, of course I do know Berhael :D
