We have tapas in Philadelphia, served by Flamenco dancers. He can sleep in my spare room.

Yes, I have been to Leon, for the very reason you state: that it is not for tourists.
I have also been to Santiago during the sin peregrino season and to Valladolid, la capital vieja. Burgos is the hometown of my amigo antiguo Jose Antonio Santo de Campos (now a prof at the Univ of Granada) and I visited him there in the winter of '72. A fine cathedral in the Gothic style, but I prefer the Romanesque of Campostella, thank you.
Conoces a la querida Berhael, ella de Madrid y de estas paginas bien acordada? Como todos, la echo de menos. Casada ya, no tarda mas por aqui.

I am not a lady of Castilla la Vieja... I am Galician, from Pontevedra (well, at least the half of me that is from Spain, the other half is Irish) Call me the Celtic Lady, if you will
Also, people from León would murder you (no kidding) for putting them in the same sack with Valladolid. Surely you know was one of the oldest kingoms in Spain, the Asturleonese kingdom, with León as capital shortly after the beginning of the Reconquista. Let's say they didnt take well being merged into the Kingdom of Castilla
Burgos Cathedral is beautiful, yes, but imo in no way can't compare León's - unless you prefer German Gothic style to French
