The Oscars are upon us!

Post by Smaug's voice »

2nd March, this Sunday.

Just in case, here is the list of nominees:

Speculate away anything and everything about the Oscars.

(I have also added a poll: which film would YOU like to win the Best Picture?)

I am quite sure 12 Years will win, but I want Gravity to win (by a slight margin) so I voted that.

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't seen any of those.

(Did you mean to leave 12 Years out of your poll?)

I've seen American Hustle, Gravity, and Wolf of Wall Street. While Gravity absolutely MUST get best director (and it surely will), none of these struck me as good enough to deserve the top honor. It feels like it's been a weak year in film.

I have seen only 3 so there ya go. :D

Strange. I remember putting in 9 poll options. It seems to have disappeared. now I can't find a way to include one more option. :?

I added 12 Years a Slave. Clearly that needs to be a choice.

*taptap*
No one in the room?

Anyway, I think after 7-8 years or so I finally agree with most of the decisions by the Academy.
Of course, Gravity deserved VFX and the sound categories. But I am also glad to see it win best editing and score as well. Both of which were masterfully done.
And yes, happy for Cuaron too. ( I had never seen him before)

Not a surprise, but I am glad to see 12 years winning the best Picture. Deservedly so. ( a part of me was wishing that Steve McQueen win the best director as well) I am also delighted for the young actress from 12 years winning the supporting actress award.

The only major shock, I think, was Hustle not winning a single award. None for the acting.
And especially for the screenplay. That was a big shocker.

ETA:
Finally good to see a more family-friendly Oscar show after the atrocities of last year. Thanks to the host, who I thought did very good.
