Re: The (no longer) much too early 2024 election thread
Not to mention that the voters are greatly influenced by social media companies that are either controlled by hostile states (TikTok, Twitter through Musk's creditors) or are driven by algorithms that are susceptible to manipulation by hostile state agents (the rest of them). And they are pulling fo...

Is there a law that requires them to warn you that you are being recorded? There are lots of those cameras here, but no warnings.

Night Watch spoilers ahead Saw a Tumblr post with a theory that in Night Watch, young Sam Vimes assumed that John Keel was his long-absent father. (Looks like me, looks out for me, says he's from a distant city but actually knows my neighborhood very well, likes the same food I do but won't go to se...

Re: Favorite artists - contribute!
That kind of a abstract art is not for me. It takes an amazing kind of mastery to evoke emotion through seemingly random splotches of paint, and I usually enjoy watching the clouds more. At least I don't have to wonder if the artist is having me on (well, I do, but on a very different level). Kandin...

Re: Favorite artists - contribute!
I agree it's not abstract, but I do think he's taking a page (canvas?) from Pollock where the act of creating the painting is as much a work of art as the painting itself. And the result can stand on its own when viewed by someone who is not aware of the process. Pollock's work just looks like cats ...

Inanna, my son really likes the show, and he's not easily impressed. I finished listening to Winter's Gifts , a Rivers of London spinoff featuring FBI Agent Reynolds instead of Peter Grant. It's fun, although a bit more on the horror side than most of the series, Any graphic violence is against unde...

Re: War between Hamas and Israel
Yeah, Netanyahu is also fairly awful. He's not wrong on that point, but I really don't like where that kind of rhetoric can go if taken too far. For one thing - notice who isn't protesting for Hamas? Israeli Arabs. There are massive protests against the government in Tel Aviv, but they are carrying ...

Re: War between Hamas and Israel
Hamas bombed border crossing from Israel to prevent aid from reaching Gaza. MSN Meanwhile, Israel closed the Kerem Shalom border crossing to humanitarian trucks after it was hit by at least 10 rockets on Sunday morning, according to the IDF. The crossing has been central to getting aid into Gaza. It...

Re: Revisiting Rings
Oh, that's sad! 79 doesn't seem like nearly old enough. He was an amazing Théoden whose performance transcended some unfortunate writing choices in the script. I remember in the commentary he was the one who asked for a second in command he'd give orders to who would make things happen, because that...

Re: Frazetta LOTR Images and Fantasy art beyond Tolkien
Best Frazetta theory so far.
Although looking at his other art, such as the orca and the dwarves following Gandalf, it seems he a. really hated drawing pants and therefore b. In the Frazetta verse everyone does dress that way.- Sun May 05, 2024 1:56 am

That was not the first violent incident coming from this movement. In my own hometown a counterprotestor was attacked and pushed to the ground. Across the different protest sites we've seen signs calling for genocide of the Jewish people and spouting Nazi slogans. Swastikas have been drawn on the wa...

To think that we live in the timeline where politicians feel the need to say that they did not shoot their puppies.
