Re: The Story of Kullervo

The articles and press releases I read initially said August 27 for UK (Harper Collins), October 27 for US (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), but all of a sudden some have stated that US will be April 5th, 2016. Amazon also lists it as such, and Houghton Mifflin's Tumblr has April as well. Some websites h...

Re: Being Finicky about Science Fiction

On the topic of being picky about science fiction, I enjoy many novels by Jack McDevitt, including a series of futuristic mysteries. They're thrilling and comfortable; I've thought "I could recommend these to my mother," who reads a lot but not science fiction. However, on Reddit recently ...

Re: Christian Music

I really like that Weihnachtslieder! :D I'm not a Christian per se, but I'm fond of a good amount of Christian hymns, carols, and classical requiems/Passions/etc. The video you posted is right up my alley.

Re: When will you be seeing BotFA

Good luck, Tyrhael! I hope you find at least some things that you enjoy. Thank you! I enjoyed AUJ much more the second time around. Sure, there were still parts I didn't like at all (while some I didn't mind as much this time having already known of them), but I had forgotten about many parts I did...

Re: When will you be seeing BotFA

Well, after some of your posts in "All the glorious moments" and other threads, I was persuaded to give the Hobbit films a second chance. After seeing AUJ in theaters, I decided that I didn't feel like watching the rest of the trilogy. However, I'm now about to watch DoS EE, and will likel...

Re: new Hammond & Scull: The Art of LotR (2015)

Their Art of The Hobbit book is (not surprisingly) superb, as is their previous J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator . [...] But equally, I look forward to Wayne and Christina's informative commentary. Good point - I loved Artist and Illustrator for both its art content and their commentary, so I...

new Hammond & Scull: The Art of LotR (2015)

Dorwiniondil at the Plaza has pointed out that Scull and Hammond have revealed their latest project on their blog: The Art of the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien . I'm getting very excited about this new publication. I'll have to check out Art of The Hobbit as well; I must have not been a...

Guy Gavriel Kay: Fionovar, The Silmarillion, etc.

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I saw this article posted on G+ (thanks to Jeremiah Burns) and thought some of you might be interested. Guy Gavriel Kay: ‘I learned a lot about false starts from JRR Tolkien’ Thirty years ago, the first in Kay’s bestselling Fionovar...

I just discovered the works of Justin Gerard via reddit; he has a few Tolkien-related pieces on his website: Glorfindel and the Balrog , the Fall of Glorfindel , Smaug , and Glaurung and the Dwarf King . I particularly like the latter two (his rendition of dragons!), as the curved swords and Balrog ...

Woohoo! I am always pleased to see a new piece handwritten by Tolkien, as his sometimes calligraphic / sometimes illegible scrawls are rather intoxicating to view. I'm saving up on my computer pictures of every Tolkien handwriting-piece found online (Sothebys, Christies, etc.) or scanned from books ...

In the joint del Toro / PJ online chat regarding 'The Hobbit', I planned to ask whether they intended to once again utilize "Elvish" in inscriptions, lyrics, dialogue, etc., but wasn't able to. ... Then of course if David Salo was chosen again he'd be between a rock and a hard place on whe...

US Men winning the Bronze in Team Gymnastics. If your not familiar with Raj Bhavsar, and I suppose you wouldn't if you don't follow Gymnastics, it was immensely satisfying to see him win an Olympic medal, not to mentnion the rest of the team :). Anyone else have some highlights? Perhaps without suc...

This race sure is getting nasty — this probably is old news by now, but my dad won't vote for Obama because of emails he saw passed around that said (A) that Obama used to be a Muslim, and (B) supposedly the Bible says that the Antichrist will be a very charismatic person from the east, i.e. that Ob...

My twin brother recommended it to me, and I saw it — I thought it was a wonderful film! My parents didn't really appreciate it, though.
