Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

Thank you for your review, Necromancer.

V, what are your overall thoughts on the extended edition? Does it visibly improve the film? If so, where in particular? How does it compare to the other extended Hobbit films? (mind you, I have not seen any of the extended Hobbit cuts).

Re: Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens—non-spoiler discussion

I have never said that racists are a tiny minority in your country. What I said was that on the internet you have tiny minority of “sincere” supremacist white-nationalists who fear that children movies such as the upcoming Star Wars films are ploys of Jewish world dominance, deployed to extinguish t...

Re: Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens—non-spoiler discussion

I on the other hand think that this The Hollywood Reporte r article is merely a reflection of bad modern journalism. The premise of the article is such a nonstory really. Basically the author just informs us that there are people on the internet that like Star Wars and are racists. I am shocked, utt...

Re: General Hobbit Movie Info (AVOID IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOIL

So I guess this fits in here :D : Vin Diesel , acclaimed star of The Fast and the Furious franchise, The Chronicles of Riddick trilogy, and Guardians of the Galaxy , wants to play Melkor himself in a possible Silmarillion adaptation. Elijah Wood told Stephen Colbert as much. Mr. Diesel, who is an av...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

Beutlin, if you want to see my review of MI2, please go back to pg. 24 on this thread. Not my cup of tea at all! Sunsilver, I know where you are getting at, and by no means am I disagreeing with your assessment that MI2 is a pointless action movie. But it has its (mostly unintentional) selling poin...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

After my horrible experience with Mission Impossible 2, I was not tempted to watch it. I am somewhat of a contrarian, so in my opinion Mission: Impossible II is the most entertaining out of the first four films (I have not seen Rogue Nation so far). Whereas films 1 and 3 tried to tell a faux-seriou...

:D Al, if one considers your vocal skills, you shoud seriously consider to star as Conan in an actual Conan musical. I help you with the Austrian accent, and you need to bulk up of course, but I see a great future ahead. :D

Re: Modern Computer Games and their artistic merit

I think to say that what defines games is “the obstacle course” is a tad too simple. After all, one might - along the same lines – say that what defines movies is “moving pictures”, and therefore anything else (characters, music, dialogues, etc.) is something else “around” the moving pictures. There...

Re: Modern Computer Games and their artistic merit

In my opinion, the article is a mess and perfectly aligns with so many other articles these days which talk about the boundaries of art. In our postmodern era, the meaning of art, its (degree of) importance to society and the personal relationship to it have become ambiguous to say the least. To tal...

Re: Middle-earth [formerly LotR] in New Media

Why am I suddenly muttering "Trebuchets are not a defensive weapon!"? While the trebuchet was predominantly an offensive siege weapon, evidence exists that trebuchets – in other parts of Europe known as Fundíbul (Spanish), Tribok (German), or Valslynge (Norse) – were also occasionally emp...

Re: The Martian

I have a hunch this movie will flop, both with critics and movie goers. Some of Matt Damon's lines from the trailer are truly atrocious ("In your face, Neil Armstrong!";"...science the shit out of this."). Who talks/writes like that besides bad pop-science writers on the Internet...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

Looking back at them, I prefer the first two Spiderman films to Singer's X-Men flics. Raimi brought a light hearted playfulness to the whole genre, and in many ways Spiderman comes closest to what I consider a quintessential American comic. I would not go so far as to call myself a fan but Raimi's c...

Meanwhile, to my jaundiced eyes, it appears like Hillary Clinton's campaign could well implode over this email server issue. Ah, ye olde Marvel vs. DC feud. As a continental European, I never got into American comics. Back in the day, I read tons of “Asterix” and “Lucky Luke” comics from France/Belgium. Europeans (especially Italians) are curiously fond of Mickey Mouse and the Duck family, and my room was filled with Scro...

Crowdfunding Minas Tirith

Apologies for starting a new thread for this. Apparently some guys in England want to crowdfund Minas Tirith. They just need 1.85 billion pounds. So far they have made 77K. :D Reactions came in quick and fast. There is already a kickstarter called "Destroy Minas Tirith" which wants to buil...
