I loved his books, loved how his mind worked, loved how his wit sparkled, loved that his witches were strong and eccentric, loved that his world rested on a turtle, loved that Death spoke LIKE THIS.
What a sad loss.

Re: Lived long, and prospered
I loved Spock from the first episode on. I not only loved the character, I wanted to BE the character. The man who brought him to life so well intercepted my life in unexpected ways. During the few short years of the original series' run, I was a Girl Scout. My troop leader told us one day that she ...

Forced embraces, eh? I don't remember that part.
I'd say that cinema is in desperate need of an editor. It might help if the blurb writer watched the movie, too.

And now I have the audiobook of Name of the Wind. I was just looking for my next read.

Re: So there's this riot going on right now
Ax, that was my reaction as well. The cheerful Seasons Greetings sign was wreathed in tear gas and smoke from fires lit in rage. Surreal. I had hoped the protest would remain peaceful and the law enforcement restrained. Instead, some people are expressing their anger by looting and burning minority-...

Re: Book 2, Chapter 6: Lothlórien
A personal thought as we rest in Lothlórien. From the first time I read this chapter, it woke in me such a sense of wonder that for a long time any experience of great beauty or awe took me back to the Golden Wood. I clearly remember summer nights in bed under an open window, the attic fan pulling i...

Dracula Untold.
Bard makes a fine-looking Impaler. Interesting visuals of bats swarming.
That's about all I have to say about that.

"I'm a Dragon!"
I love the "utter joy" he describes feeling as he sees the finished Smaug in action.

Re: Robin Williams, RIP
Very saddened by the news. He was a great talent, with an infectious, wild sense of fun but also the ability to go deep. It's hard to imagine the despair that must have eaten away at someone so seemingly full of life.

I see Ygritte as someone who is a killer but not cruel, someone who fights for her people but not for personal power. In Westeros, that's about as close to honorable and moral as any character is likely to get. They're all killers and/or manipulators. The good ones do it for better reasons, and with...

I was not underwhelmed by Ygritte's death. The aura of regret and lost opportunities brought tears to my eyes. She and John were both so headstrong and true to their values -- that drew them together but also tore them apart. When she hesitated, John had such a look of hope and love on his face ... ...
