Re: The Olympics
Short track speed skating has been my favorite winter sport since watching Apollo Ohno at the 2002 Olympics and these games have been off to a really good start so far. The South Korean women's team came back from an early crash today to not only win their semifinal but break the Olympic record for ...

^That's correct, Voronwë.
Sorry if that was unclear; I wasn't trying to be obfuscatory.![Image](https://i.imgur.com/TfdPPsY.gif)

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
What I was trying to convey is that on the family tree, both Elrond and Elros are at the same degree of closeness to the speaker of the quote, but your interpretation would also be accurate.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
The pronoun is incorrect; the original quote is a first-person statement.
The speaker is not entirely an elf.

Thanks, Voronwë! Here's the next quote:
He was tired of your world.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it Aragorn speaking to Arwen? "Behold! we are not bound for ever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory. Farewell!"

Was the original quote referring to the Ring?

Re: I was born in...
My first order was the hardcover editions of volumes X-XII of The History of Middle-earth in early 2008. Apparently I paid for it with a gift card which I assume was a Christmas present from one of my aunts or uncles who had given up on trying to find non-book gifts (I'm sure I wasn't an easy kid to...

Re: Trump's America
It's certainly not my intention to argue for boundless executive authority, but I'm not wholly opposed to executive orders. If anything, I think they have a firmer constitutional basis than the regulatory powers of independent federal agencies (cf. J. W. Hampton, Jr. & Co. v. United States ); bo...

Re: Trump's America
If Trump were to take a stance against sweeping executive orders and the so-called imperial presidency as a general concept then I might agree with him (though it feels really weird to type those words), but since the system has evolved the way it has and shows little sign of changing I think it's l...

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Thanks Alatar! When I first picked this username back when I was 14 the similarity was mostly unintentional (my initial guess at how to translate the name I wanted was slightly different), but most people shorten it to Eldo in any event. :) Here's the next quote: We spoke into Eä was conceived witho...

Is it Balin in TH (ch. 11)? “The mountain’s sides were green with woods and all the sheltered valley rich and pleasant in the days when the bells rang in that town.”

Re: Musicals and Operas
I lucked into seeing The Book of Mormon at the last minute when a friend and I drove down to enter the daily lottery for some of the cheap seats. I knew next to nothing about it going in but it was a really good time.

Re: Ed Sheeran
I've heard a little bit of Ed Sheeran on the radio over the years and briefly sought out some of his stuff on my own after he recorded the end credits song for The Desolation of Smaug , but ultimately I've heard very little of his stuff so I'm really enjoying listening to the songs in this thread.
