Re: What are you reading?

Alatar, don't hold your breath on GRRM ever finishing his series. The graphic novels only go thru the second book - four volumes for the first book and three volumes for the second book (A Clash of Kings). That said, I recommend reading the book series, and the graphic novel set. And unlike most peo...

Re: What are you reading?

Here are a few more books I've read lately. A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 & 2 (additional volumes are queued up). This set of graphic novels is based on George R R Martin’s weighty tomes, squeezed down to their absolute essence by Daniel Abraham. The original book one, A Game of...

Re: What are you reading?

I finished Lessons in Chemistry - is everyone else ready to talk about it, or is it too late? I agree with you, Maria, on the later Becky Chambers books - the earlier ones are better. Jude, the book by Kate Quinn that you recommended sounds interesting, as do and all the other historical novels by h...

Re: TV obsessions—come on, admit it!

He is rather easy on the eyes! ;) And I'd give Watson another try - it's not great TV, but it is better than average. I'm starting to watch The Eternaut on Netflix. It's based on a comic book series written in the 50s in Argentina. I read the first part of the comic book series some time ago (in Spa...

Re: What are you reading?

Yes, all of this is unpleasantly familiar to me, too, having been a kid in the mid 50s and 60s. And it didn't stop then. "Lady Engineers" are still an anomaly, not always taken seriously. But I am enjoying the book.

Re: TV obsessions—come on, admit it!

I saw the first episode. I thought it was good; hubby wasn't impressed enough to watch the rest of the series. I only watch a few hours per week with him, and our next few "dates" will be with Andor, Watson, and Holmes & Daughter. Maybe I'll watch the rest on my own later.

Re: TV obsessions—come on, admit it!

I'm watching both "Watson" and "Sherlock and Daughter", making a mental shift between the two. "Watson" is a present day version of Dr. Watson, running a clinic solving medical mysteries, after the death of Holmes. I've seen about 6 episodes so far. They remind me of th...

Re: What are you reading?

I've got 22 books downloaded to my phone, including Lessons in Chemistry. I can start anytime, or wait if that's better for some people. I was off camping this past week with a pre-loaded library on my phone (via Libby) and looking forward to wandering in the woods while listening to various books. ...

Re: What are you reading?

Maria, the Jenny Schwartz series (first book "Astray") looks interesting, but not showing up in my libraries.

I started watching the Lessons in Chemistry TV series, but lost interest. OK, I'll download it now, and we can chat about it in a few weeks, as soon as Inanna snags a copy to read.

Re: What are you reading?

Good to see you, Wampus. I'll add some of those to my ridiculously long wish list (1,275 at last count)! I'll probably read the Clover book first, since one of my volunteer jobs is as a peer grief group facilitator, and the Life After Doom, because I continue to beat the drum about climate change to...

Re: What are you reading?

Frelga, I’m sorry to hear you are still in the doldrums. Inanna, Katherine Addison is dark, but captivating. Thank you all for your recommendations. Some have been added to my increasingly improbably wish list. The mysteries I read are mostly warm and fuzzy, and sometimes hilarious. The rest may be ...

Re: The Wheel of Time TV Series

I haven't read the books or watched the series. From the preview it would appear that it is 90% battle scenes. If that's the case, I'm not interested.
