Re: The last movie you saw Thread
I haven't seen Black Panther yet. But I'm excited about the film mostly because of the director as I loved his previous film, Creed. And that did not feel like an amateurish attempt by any margin. But we'll see. I've hardly liked any of the Marvel or DC flicks so far (Civil War, Guardians, Ragnarok ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
While there was dark humour, I didn't find most of it tonally jarring. It was funny in a way Breaking Bad or a Coen-brothers films usually are. In fact it almost felt like a Coen-brothers film. The only problematic character was Mildred's ex-husband's new girlfriend who came off way too cartoonist. ...

I enjoyed Three Billboards a lot. So far my favourite films of this year in descending order; Blade Runner 2049 Get Out Three Billboards Logan War for the Planet of the Apes Dunkirk The Last Jedi Thor; Ragnarok The Lego Batman Movie Coco I have yet to see The Shape of Water (it's del Toro!), Ladybir...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
And one more post will be a thousand! And here it is. :P Well, my first post in this site was also in one of these 'Hobbit' threads. So it's a circle I guess. :) Not much to say, except that I loved all the conversations and exchanges I've had here over the years. Six more months, and I'll be...

If there's a good Russian adaptation of War and Peace, I'd definitely watch that.

War for Planet of the apes.
The best of what I think is the best trilogy of this decade so far.
And it's got not-so-subtle nods to a number of old movies such as the ten commandments, Ben-Hur, the Great Escape, Apocalypse Now and of course the original Planet of the Apes.

I'll just be an optimist about this with fingers crossed.
Tolkien's legacy has hung over worse odds before.

Re: Star Wars, Episode VIII
That Leia scene and Canto Bight. The only two things I disliked about the film. And those two would've been major negatives for me, but it made up for it with all the other things going on in it. Kylo Ren is hands down the most intriguing Star Wars villain. (Vader's badass and all but very bland) An...

Re: Oscar flub
Moonlight is an exceptional film though. I'm glad, and a little surprised, that it won. The only disappointment was that Zootopia won over Kubo and the Two strings. The latter was by far the better film, even though I do love Zootopia. I've seen 8 of the 9 best picture nominees and I'm in agreement ...

Re: Rogue One - Spoilers
That was the first light saber battle ever, and what they could become hadn't yet been envisioned. The weapons were heavy and fragile, and the budget was low, so they had to use them carefully. , True. That's why it has value for being the grandaddy of all saber battles and of sentimental value to ...

I'm 23. I don't know about a scale rating :P But I love many of the Star Trek films like WoK, Voyage home, Undiscovered country, first contact etc. Also seen all Indy Jones films (contrary to popular opinion, also thought Raiders was overrated :P ) , the first two Alien films, Prometheus and Blade R...

Re: Rogue One - Spoilers
Never understood the Star Wars craze. I thought most of those films were pretty bad except for ESB and Force Awakens. But...I loved Rogue One. :) It's the first SW film that I actually could connect on an emotional level. And it at least improves A new hope, which I find to be pretty outdated and mo...

Saw The Lobster.
It's like nothing I've never seen before. It's very weird (in a good way), hilarious despite being completely glum, and has what I consider the most haunting closing shot I've seen in modern cinema.

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
I concur. The action could also have been much more innovative (along the lines of the hallway fight in Inception). And I wish Marvel stopped casting such superb actors for such vaguely defined Villains. Mads Mikkelsen still pulled it off to make it somewhat convincing., though it could have been va...

Anyone looking forward to Arrival? Looks like one of the better, more cerebral SciFi-fare than the norm.
It's been getting rave reviews.

Re: IMDB Top 250 films
I'm not sure if it's there in the list, but "Grave of the Fireflies" definitely should be. It's heart-breaking, poignant, sweet yet harrowing. It's difficult how I felt about it after watching it. I'll leave Roger Ebert's review instead which does a far better job at explaining it's greatn...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Probably the best Trek movie since 'Undiscovered Country' (which I favour above fan favourite 'Wrath of Khan'). It *is* an action movie at it's heart, but it came closest to the series' essence than either of the previous two. And I love the Bones-Spock bromance :D PS; RIP Anton Yelchin. I feel so s...
