Jindal's problem was that he didn't know how to present himself before a national audience. He wasn't used to the major league. So he got somebody to tell him what to do, and they steered him horribly wrong. And yes, Clinton's speech in 1988 is still the gold standard for disastrous oratory. EDIT: I...

He attended my church one Sunday, but no state planes or helicopters were involved. Nor did he speak. Nor (apart from acknowledging his presence, which was only polite) did the church endorse him. He came, he sat through the sermon and he left. No big deal. There is no credible "dirt" on J...

I'm in Louisiana, and I like Jindal. I've seen him face-to-face, and he's highly intelligent. But the speech was awful, yes. He does not speak like that: He must have been following instructions from some "expert" to be as bad as he was. Whoever it was needs to be (metaphorically) hanged. ...

The problem any conservative has in debate is that he cannot even mention his sources. Invariably somebody says, "Oh, not them! You can't trust anything they say because they have a conservative bias!" It never occurs to some people that liberalism is also a bias; so the conservative spend...

Oh, I have plenty of lovely quotes from enlightened people. One of my favorites is from Linda Ronstadt, who said: "If there's a Republican or a Christian at one of my concerts, I'd rather not know about it." She says it "clouds her enjoyment." But I think I have derailed the disc...

This just in: Garrison Keillor, the modern Mark Twain and NPR wit, has found a solution for the healthcare crisis. In a Chicago Tribune column, he writes: "One starts to wonder if the country wouldn't be better off without (Republicans) and if Republicans should be cut out of the health-care sy...

Yes, the quality of the mugs is very high. The smooth, slick surface holds ink much better than (let's say) a tee shirt.

Do remember that Lux Aeterna is available on a mug as well. It's much cheaper than the painting.

I saw them and was deeply touched.

The kitchen in particular was—pardon me. I'm too emotional.

Sun and Frelga, many thanks. Yes, you can customize your mug in quite a few ways. You can even order a black mug on which the image magically appears when hot water is poured into it. I can attest that all the Zazzle products I've seen so far are every bit as good as you'd find in an upscale gift sh...

Coffee With Whistler

Hello, all! Whistler here. I seldom post any more because all I can bring myself to do (after working at the job ten hours daily, and tending to my Alzheimer's patient) is to paint pictures. It has been brought to my attention that some of you don't have hundreds of dollars to invest in art. For thi...

My father is dying of Alzheimers' now. He is in a hospital bed in the downstairs bedroom. He has been unable to get out of it for six months. This is the final act of a miserable drama that began when he contracted encephalitis in 1980. The encephalitis somehow triggered the Alzheimer's. I don't kno...

Hm...odd. I'm sure it comes down to having to embed the file. I've tried that, but the playback is distorted. I shall consult my web guru on the matter. I am taking him out tonight for a steak dinner. That should do the trick. Not that it matters. If people want to hear music as they surf, they're p...

I've added a so-so public domain recording of the Promenade theme from Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition. It's on the Gallery page, and it should open in a second window so you can listen as you browse the pictures. I couldn't make the darn thing loop, so I pasted four recordings together and t...

If you'd rather buy a painting, that's okay too.
