I don't know Stephen Graham, but I could definitely see Toby Jones as Bilbo. Actually, there's something similar to Alan Lee's portrayal of Bilbo in him; just take a look at some of these illustrations.

Once again, to me, the crucial thing here is making a choice that later turns out "right", although Tolkien perhaps didn't think about it at this point, at least not at first. Due to their decision, the hobbits do get in trouble - but, they meet Tom, who helps and protects them, and provid...

Lawrence's art may be inspired by his faith, but the abstract style makes the message so subtle that anyone can enjoy his paintings as works of art. Actually, it's just the same as with Tolkien's books.

And, Whistler's first painting would make a great altarpiece in some modern church. :)

I can take it now, being labeled and self-centered is little beside other names, far less flattery. I am tired of justifying and defending myself. So I avoided the discussion. Keep your judgements and hope that the day when you have to admit that you cannot live with your own ideals may never come....

Great post, AJ. What you saw in that couple you told about, I can definitely see in my parents, who are in their eighties and been married for 52 years. 8) If I may be so brash and others may disagree with me, but I think cheating comes from being self-centered. That, and it may be combin...

They make rules about the use of different weapons. When I was in the military, for instance, we were forbidden to shoot .50 caliber rounds at human targets, only at their equipment. I imagine they'll make rules about the use of this laser as well. In a real battle situation, do you think that anyb...

And, I'm sure professional photographers would say that with an old camera of good quality, one can get even better photos than with modern digital equipment. :)

I haven't watched the games very much; the broadcasts are mostly during the day, when I'm at work so, it has mostly been about half an hour in the morning while preparing to leave for work. But, on Saturday, I vegetated a couple of hours in front of the TV watching dressage. It isn't a sport that's ...

If they played it in Finland, would it be translated to Finnish? Yes, for a Finnish production, it would. The translator of Tolkien's books is still alive and working, though, and I think they might ask her for the job. There are and have been tour performances of a few big musicals, e.g. Grease an...

I've heard about a possibly upcoming German production, just not where it's going to be... *looking for an excuse to get to visit Hobby* ;)

I believe either the Helsinki City Theatre or the Lahti City Theatre might take it up at some point, they've staged several big musicals over the years.

I've only seen Baynes's Tolkien illustrations before, but many of them were among the best. Sad to hear about her passing.

The St. George illustrations are very nice, just like from some medieval manuscript.

In The Hobbit , Gollum is told to have caught and eaten a goblin-imp, i.e. an orc child, so I guess he could have killed and eaten human babies too...
