Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Gimli to Legolas, when they met the old man in outskirts of Fangorn Forest that they were sure was out to do them in, but Legolas could not shoot him with his bow:
‘Why are you waiting? What is the matter with you?’

The grace of the king is certainly wonderful. But if our words aren't enough, we swear to you.

Is it connected with Ghân-buri-Ghân?

Much earlier.

Indeed it was!

At the time of speaking, does Morgoth possess all three Silmarils?

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I had to check the Grey Annals to answer that question. The answer is yes, but less than ten years later the answer would be no.

Ten years is a short time in Silmarillion-scale
Húrin to Maeglin (the king mentioned being Turgon)The King's grace is great indeed: but if our word is not enough, then we will swear oaths to you.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
You got it! Well done.
I was pretty sure that Húrin's and Huor's sojourn in Gondolin ended before Beren and Lúthien were able to wrest the Silmaril from Morgoth's crown (it definitely is mentioned first in the Silmarillion narrative) , but I knew that it was all jumbled up in the time period after the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin. Based on the Annals, Húrin and Huor left Gondolin in the year 458 of the Sun (or perhaps 459), Beren became an outlaw in 460, he entered Doriath and met Lúthien in 464, and they were able to obtain the Silmaril in 466.

Yes! Can you provide the exact quote?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Um. Now I need to remember where it is. In Rivendell, probably. Please don't tell me I have to read through the Council of Elrond. I've been in too many Zoom meetings like that.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Oops. I totally posted it in my mind. Thank you, elengil, for confirming that it was indeed in the Zoom Call of Elrond.
