What Prim said! :D

(I see my devious plan to grasp power by switching this board to German is working! - oops, was I speaking out loud? :D ;) )
but being a cheerful hobbit he had not needed hope, as long as despair could be postponed.

No, it is the 'Bolg' from Chapter 17 of the Hobbit, who succeeded the Great Goblin.

Hello and greetings to all here. I was referred by truehobbit from TORc...

I shall have a look around :)

Make yourself at home! We hope you'll like the place.

Welcome also to phouka and Lattice of Pistons, whom I missed!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Bolg posts under the same name on TORC, but I really got to know him better by playing chess with him on letsplaychess.com.
I thought getting him over here would divert his attention from the chessboard, where I'm in a pretty hopeless position, but in vain. It really seems like he knows what he's doing on the chessboard. :suspicious:

:P ;)

I hope you'll feel encouraged to join the discussions, Bolg! Everybody's opinions are worthwhile and can be more food for thought than people imagine. :)

That goes for the other new people, too, of course - welcome and I hope to see you guys post. (I couldn't help spending some time trying to imagine what a "latticework of pistons" would look like. ;) )

Welcome, artie! :welcome:

Quickie introduction of artie to those already here:

artie contacted me via TAZ regarding the charter process at B77 and we've been discussing principles of internet democracy via email. :) He's joined both boards.

You've got a different username at B77, haven't you, artie? I forgot what your username is over there.

Hello.

I am registered as democracy over there.

I am very excited to finally find people who are at least interested in exploring the possibilities of democratically administered forums on the web.

The work you all did developing a charter is impressive. I think you all should count it as a success that you worked together democratically for that many months.

I hope to participate in some discussions about how we can further the democratic experiment.

I think we might get something else going. Not to replace or convert this community but just some more experimentation.

Anyway, I am really excited to meet Jnyusa and all the rest of you who have been involved in this very ambitious endeavor!!! :)

I think that's pretty cool to read, artie. :sunny:

I think I can safely say that it has been a bit of a journey for those of us who were involved in that experiment (even those who were nominally involved, such as me!).

But reading your perspective on it is refreshing. It helps to see such enthusiasm for the idea itself, and acknowledgement of the effort expended, from a fresh pair of eyes. :)

One other thing (and this deserves a separate post)

I like the way you introduce yourselves to new members rather than wait around for them to introduce themselves.

This is the traditional way to do it. In every real life club or community I've been in the established members always greeted the new people!

I think that you are on the right track.

Thanks, artie!

It is gratifying to hear that at this stage of the journey Anthy mentioned.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him.
