But you got it! I was lucky I didn't have many options with the letters I had.

Word Grid is kind of intriguing:
WordGrid #402

Rarity: 5.39

I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that your score is based on how rare your guesses are compared with other players'; opens the door to all sorts of weird game theory dynamics. Also makes it hard to actually finish a puzzle since I keep thinking, "sure, this word would work and it's *pretty* obscure, but *can I do even better*?"

I was just messing around. I'm not quite sure I fully understand the game because it wouldn't accept some of my words although I thought it fit the criteria. I did get one unicorn.

I almost asked what that unicorn was because I was curious about what would happen (to each of us) if I guessed it too, but I just played an old archived puzzle and got a popup telling me that "you just took a unicorn away from someone," so I guess that's the answer. "Isotone," by the way.
It does seem to be a bit picky about accepting inflected/compoundicated/complexified forms of base words (even ones I didn't make up on the spot)--it rejected "territoriality" and "spelunked," for example.
ETA: Why does typing (colon)nerd(colon) auto-insert an image that's hosted elsewhere?
I wonder what else might work...

So the higher the rarity number, the lower the rarity?

I believe the number in the each corner is the percentage of players who guessed the same word, so assuming that's what you're looking at too, yes. Edit: And the overall rarity score in the upper-left appears to be the straight sum of those individual scores.
Now I have to figure out how to turn off these autocomplete suggestions since they feel like cheating...
Edit again: It rejected "orcish"

Edit again again: I both stole a unicorn and found one of my own in the same game.

Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
Words games reveal some odd things about the working of the mind. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but it's *extremely* common for me to look at a crossword clue and the spot on the board, think "that's ridiculous; I don't know that!", and move on to the next word, only to have the answer suddenly pop into my head out of nowhere. Proving that something that isn't precisely me was busily and successfully chugging away at the problem in the background even while I had my attention focused elsewhere.
Another example: this word grid puzzle I just did. I needed a seven-letter word that contained both an o and a c, the more obscure the better. I quickly settled on "toxical," which my brain told me was an archaic version of "toxic." And that's true, though I have no idea when or where I learned that, and I can't imagine I encountered that rather arcane fact more than once in my entire life. Yet it was there when I needed it.
But ask me during standup what I spent yesterday working on, and my mind's a blank slate.
Edit: Oh the irony!

I did a bunch of these from the archive last night and with that practice was (just barely) able to crack the top 10% today:
