Is that an actual quote? It's not the answer...

I was thinking of Aragorn at Helm's Deep. So I had to look up the actual quote:

"The Dawn is not far off"
'You just said "your getting shorter": you've obviously been drinking too much ent-draught and not enough Prim's.' - Jude

Hint: it's much shorter than the original quote. Think of a much longer quote, with a totally different overall meaning but some of the same actual words.

"use" & "morning"? Or "the"?

Another hint: the dialogue at this point is rather whimsical. The character goes on to say:
Get more of me, get rid of it now.
At least, he does when his words get passed through the Translation Party.

Is another hint needed?

The end result is much shorter than the original quote. It doesn't have the word "the" in it, but the other two words are there.

Is it Gandalf saying to Bilbo, "What a lot of things you do use Good morning for"?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

This one should be pretty easy.

"Green Earth? Light step and a powerful legend has it!"
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Ooh. Is it Éomer to Aragorn at their first meeting? Something about Legends springing to life from the green earth?

You're close, but not close enough.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

To be clearer, you have the right meeting, but the wrong speaker, and the description of what the quote is isn't quite right either.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

I looked it up - Éomer says something very similar about a page before this quote...

True enough!

I guess that makes it close enough after all. The actual comment of Aragorn to Éomer is "The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend, though you tread it under the light of day!"

Your go, Al!
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Wow, that makes it three quotes that match the translated output. I was thinking it was the quote of the unnamed rider to Éomer expressing his skepticism that hobbits actually exist.
"Halflings! But they are only a little people in old songs and children's tales out of the North. Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight?"
