It was funny timing; I've known about their powers of flight more or less forever, but I don't think I'd ever witnessed them before. They certainly don't look like things that should be capable of flight when you see them on the ground, and that doesn't change much when you see them in the air.

If you'd never seen any kind of bird and all you had was the latter, would you ever in a million years guess that the living animal resembled the former? This is what paleontologists are up against with dinosaurs.

It's a Stellar's Jay, and we think it might be the one that has built a nest in our storage shed that is missing its door (who we have nicknamed "Stella").
