Prayer Thread
vison, this sounds like what my boss's wife had. The surgery fixed her problem, and I hope it fixes Riley's.

Riley's in my prayers, vison, and his family—I can't imagine how hard it must be to wait for hours while your child is in surgery. But the results of this can indeed be amazing, a complete cure.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Lali, I felt that way about my grandma, and she was 95 as far as we could tell.
I don't think we are ever ready to let go.

Update on Riley: he's fine, but the surgery could not accomplish everything the doctors had hoped for. They did some of what they wanted to do, but he is in the small percentage of people whose "nodes" are hard to deal with. There should be some improvement in his condition, though, and he will likely be able to have successful surgery when he's older. The doctors worked for 5 hours - imagine!!! - and he was awake and demanding ice cream when his mum phoned me.
He is such a dear little boy. He stays with Oz quite often (or vice versa) and they are oddly the same, as if they are related. But they're not. He loves facts. Once he said to me, "Sheila, did you know you can't live without snot?" Well, you know, you can't.
I found him a book called "Grossology" and he loves it. Any fact will do, and the world is full of them.

vison, I'm glad he's doing well, even if they couldn't do all they hoped for in the surgery.
If anyone has time to pray or send some thoughts our way, I'd appreciate it. We're leaving this morning to go see Freddy's dad and family. I think the potential for fireworks of the dramatic kind (not the cool 4th of July kind
) definitely exists.
Freddy's dad is back in the hospital. He had a heart attack some time last week and has pneumonia. He also has an altered mental state (which is what prompted them to take him to the hospital). We don't know what's causing that yet. We do know that he's not freaking out because Freddy's mom is there, so he's definitely out of it somehow. (There's that whole messy divorce issue.)
I am most worried about my girls and about Freddy.

Freddy's dad passed away today. We got a call this morning that things were bad, and we needed to get up to Elyria as quickly as possible. We left as quickly as we could. One brother was coming up from Cincinnati. One brother was already there, with Freddy's mom. My sister-in-law and nephew were coming from Michigan (where they were for a wedding). We all converged at approximately the same time, and Freddy's dad died about 45 minutes later. He struggled to hang on till we all got there, and then he was at peace once we were all with him.

I hope that comforts you and especially Freddy, Lalaith, that his dad was at peace with all his children nearby. I don't know how these things work, but they work somehow. Freddy has the comfort of knowing that his presence was important to his father, in some way.Lalaith wrote:Freddy's dad passed away today. But I'm glad you were all there.
