Being a good baby tuckoo, I come here first after reading the rules of engagement, etc. Then I read the consequences of "Not Coming Here First". Then I thought about the forces at work in society to cause general morality, even without direct supervision.

Then I had a stiff drink and hurled a brusk word at my slack neighbor.

A good day to all you Hoffers, even those for whom it is not day. I am baby tuckoo, and I'm very nicens indeed. This being a civilized place, I will feel warm and snuggly and will coo as the occasion dictates.

I'm a nerd, but not a Tolkein nerd. I've read them and they're not my cup of tea. As soon as allowed to post, you'll see whats is my cups of tea.

Well, since you posted that, you must be allowed to post.. Looking forward to seeing what is your cups of tea, and getting to know you.

How did you hear of our little community?

It was whispered to me at an gathering of otherwise disreputable folk assembled for nefarious purposes and drunk on their assets. Being wealthy doesn't guarantee respectability. Perhaps the opposite.

Based on their heraldry and the style of their brooches, I think they were Frisians. Their beer was good though, and their wives beautiful.

Their English was musty, however, and their manners were old school. It's a wonder I understood what the hell they were talking about.

Can I say "hell?" I'm just a baby tuckoo.

Baby tuckoo (bt? tuck? babe?) I just noticed your signature text. It appears that we have at least one cup of tea in common. :)

Welcome, baby tuckoo.

Your cognomen interests me. Perhaps one day you might enlighten me as to its origin and significance.

I have at present in my hand a tinywee bit of Scotch and as I allow it to delicately touch my lips I mentally toast you, our Newest Member. I drink it in little wee bits as I am Scotch, as in tight. Not mean, though.
Dig deeper.

Welcome, baby tuckoo.

I look forward to further enlightenment as to your interests and ideas!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

VTF: We do have that in common, though I saw it not at first. How could I miss The Lion of Judah? Well, sometimes one misses stuff.

Vison: Irish for me, thanks, unless you've none. Then anything. As for my cognomen (I've used "moniker" for such in the past; yours is perhaps more accurate if we are to believe Webster's New World) it is from EngLit, and I'm sure someone will identify it quite soon. Perhaps the Irish gentleman named Alatar, who posted nice pictures of his homeland on the other thread I've managed to survey.

That might be a hint.

It's from the stream-of-conciousness from the first chapter of Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - which certainly may be autobiographical, so fair enough to identify it with Joyce himself.

Coy little baby :P
