The Fifteenth Anniversary
I miss the Howard Shore music, but love the compilation.

Wow! Thanks for that. I've let myself get too critical of those films over the years and forgot the good points.
That was wonderful.
That was wonderful.

Yes, I found that surprisingly moving to watch.
Thanks, Al. And thanks Peter Jackson and all involved. Ya done good.

Re: The Fifteenth Anniversary
A strong reminder of how much the music makes the movie, too.
But... isn't this the 17th anniversary? 15th of the day it ended, I suppose.

It's a bit odd to not use the film's soundtrack but still, that was lovely.
Some day, some person will make a perfect, seamless fan edit that removes exactly and only all the annoying, unnecessary little things I personally dislike throughout the movies (and bring back the FOTR TE intro!), and I will finally be able to watch these wonderful movies in total piece. On the very large and fancy TV I will surely own by then.

But well said nonetheless There will always be differences of opinion, and feelings of "I wish that part was different" no matter the book or movie or whatnot.
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Exactly, yov!
I wonder if it would be worthwhile to make a rough edit just for myself- chopping out the worst bits- and then watching it in a foreign language that I don't understand. That way I'd still get the stunning visuals and the perfect music...... I could even put in subtitles of what each character ought to have said.
Or, you know.... I could just read the books again!

Re: The Fifteenth Anniversary
I want to watch these again now. That was a wonderful 5-minute compilation. Maybe after our company goes home. . . .
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

What a frustrating website - there seems to be no way to find out what the edits actually do!

Trip down memory lane - the VERY FIRST LOTR trailer!! I remember how excited I was to see it, and watch it, even though it was agonizingly slow with my dialup connection!
I downloaded the large format of it one night - just left the computer running while I was sleeping. It was SO exciting to watch it over and over again the next morning!!

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

Somebody edit that description!

LOL, Inanna, it took me quite awhile to get what you were talking about! Yes, it needs an 's' on the title! Sorry, no can fix, as I wasn't the one who originally posted the video to the web!
Another example of the mind reading something, and filling in the missing bits out of habit...

Re: The Fifteenth Anniversary
ooh. I may have to watch those fan edits. The trailer was amazing although one really does miss the original music.
I have such an incredibly wonderful... ache? after having gone to New Zealand and seen some of the filming sites, Hobbiton especially. Even though there were things put into the story we didn't like, there are a great many good decisions and things that were done exceptionally well.
