Re: Trump and others charged with conspiring to overturn 2020 election in Georgia
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Clark (the upstart proposed Acting Attorney General) and one of the fake electors, David Shafer, have both filed motions to remove their cases to federal court.
Shafer has firmly placed the blame for the false elector scheme on Trump's team. Clark has also filed for a stay of the Georgia case, saying he wants to avoid "the choice of making rushed travel arrangements to fly into Atlanta or instead risking being labeled a fugitive"

Here is Fani Willis' email to Meadows' attorney after the latter asked for an extension of time for Meadows to turn himself in.

Donald Trump yesterday joked (?) on his social media network about fleeing to Russia to "share a gold-domed suite with Vladimir."

Presumably, his release conditions are not actually in place yet until he turns himself in and is released. That post would certainly violate the release conditions, but I suspect that Fani Willis will give him a fairly long rope with which to hang himself.

Kenneth Chesebro has filed a demand for a speedy trial.

Fani Willis's office filed their response to Clark's motion for a stay a few minutes before the 3:00 p.m. deadline that Judge Jones set. Just over two over after that:

This is an interesting move by Chesbro and his attorneys, and could end up leading to his portion of the case severed from the rest. His request is even faster than Willis'. But, like in the case of de Oliveira in the Florida case, he has not actually moved to sever his case. So I'm curious to see what will happen.N.E. And, in some odd sense, the anti-Kraken.

Judge Jones has also (not surprisingly) denied Meadows motion for an emergency stay. He either gets his tail down to Georgia by tomorrow or an arrest warrant will be issued.

Meanwhile, Willis is lining up testimony for the hearing scheduled on Monday on Meadows' removal petition.

Re: Trump and others charged with conspiring to overturn 2020 election in Georgia
Gabriel Malor argued here last night that Willis's reference to the Hatch Act doesn't work: "She argues that since it is against the law for a federal official to interfere with the result of an election, Meadows must not have been acting as a federal official when he did these things. Not so fast. The whole point of 'color of law' statutes is the official doesn't just stop acting within the scope of their employment when they commit a crime or violate your rights. The question is more nuanced than 'It violated the Hatch Act so it must not be under color of law.' For example, when the White House Press Secretary gets chastised for violating the Hatch Act from the White House podium [n.b., this happened recently to Joe Biden's press secretary, Karinne Jean-Pierre], she is still acting under color of law—within the scope of her federally-derived authority."

Everyone is calling everyone else's bluff: Fani Willis has responded to Chesebro by asking for the Trump racketeering trial to start less than two months from now: October 23, 2023.Voronwë the Faithful wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:16 pmThis is an interesting move by Chesebro and his attorneys, and could end up leading to his portion of the case severed from the rest. Donald Trump plans to oppose the October 23 date and to ask that his case be severed from Chesebro's.N.E. The judge has approved the trial schedule for Chesebro but has said it does not apply to the other defendants at this point.
However, it makes little sense to try his case separately so we will see what happens.

If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.
