But of course, most of the people who would be wondering probably won't have even read the books anyway. You mean, haven't read the appendices to The Lord of the Rings and done the math. In fact, math seems to have been one of Jackson's problems in The Lord of the Rings , and of Tolkien's in The Ho...

I agree that the way I put that was somewhat clumsy. There is evidence that the idea of Gil-galad as Fingon's son was an ephemeral idea in that there is a later story. There is no later story than Gil-galad as Angrod's grandson, and thus no direct evidence that it was an "ephemeral" ideal...

Just one question

u]#1017 & #1016[/u] Morwë & Nurwë Conjecture (& logic) may suggest, according to sub-section C, ‘The Clan-names’, of ‘Quendi & Eldar’ (HoMe11), that Morwë led the Tatyar-Avari apart from the Tatyar-Eldar (or Finwë’s Noldor)... Adding your conjecture to the stem mor- in Morwe's name ...

Re: #s 1030-1021

#1030 Elboron, son of Faramir & Éowyn As a matter of fact, that should have been my screenname. I ran across it in Wikipedia sometime long ago, just around the time I've found the TORn message boards. I intended to use it as a screenname (if it wasn't taken yet), and decided to lurk a bit befor...

#1040 Mrs. Maggot Called a “queen among farmer’s wives” by Frodo, presumably for her gift of mushrooms, along with graciously serving the hungry and thirsty hobbits; she had one line in LotR: “You be careful of yourself, Maggot! Don’t go arguing with any foreigners, and come straight back!” She’d r...

#1060 Elentir brother of Amandil ...CT says these sketches “in fact followed the writing of the long rider to the Akallabêth , and they represent the emergence of a doubt in my father’s mind whether the marriage [of Ar-Pharazộn to Tar-Míriel] was indeed ‘against her will’, and the sketching of a ne...

Re: #s1070-1061

Missed another week, oh well, it’ll all #1070 Orontor of Númenor He happened to be away “on a long voyage... a mission from which he might never return”, which Christopher Tolkien footnotes: “seems like a premonition of the voyage of Amandil into the West”. If so, should you have included him? #106...

Re: #s 1080-1071

Well, this is the first time I am using quotes in this board - so I might get some things wrong. As an aside question - can I quote only one post, or is there a multiquote feature? Anyway: #1080 Gilbarad great-grandfather of Aragorn In the draft of the ‘Tale of Aragorn and Arwen’, Ivorwen’s father, ...

Well, thank you! I still find it hard to believe that I am posting after all. I have a suspicion what was wrong this morning (local time); I'll try again tomorrow from the same computer and see if it works. I've already looked a bit around; and even if I manage to strictly keep myself to the Tolkien...
