Re: The Whistler Gallery, NEW and Gluten Free
Thanks for the link to your gallery, Whistler. I've always enjoyed your work. In fact, I drink my morning coffee from one of the mugs adorned with your art almost every day (and have threatened anyone who dares to break one with painful, perhaps fatal consequences). Unfortunately, I am flat broke ri...

Re: Why Church?
That has been my experience as well, Prim. The end of the service always gave me chills, when the altar is stripped and the lights go down. For years I would slowly chant Psalm 22 (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me...” while this was done. Now that I work nights, I can’t attend this service....

Sad loss: Ursula K. Le Guin
From NPR: Ursula K. Le Guin, a prolific novelist best known for the Earthsea series and The Left Hand of Darkness, died Monday at the age of 88. Across more than 20 novels and scores of short stories, Le Guin crafted fantastic worlds to grapple with profoundly difficult questions here on Earth, from...

Welcome, lazycat! We must plot the feline takeover of Middle-earth. After a long nap, that is.

Exactly. That was my experience as well. It still is my experience with my brothers. We aren’t just in the same gene pool; we love and support one another. We laugh together. A family like that is a lasting treasure. Although I secretly wanted to be a brilliant prodigy like Charles Wallace… Is 61 to...

What a shock that must be. How very sad. Praying that nobody spouts the line "God must have needed another angel" or "You can just have another."

Re: Coming to theaters March 18, 2018: A WRINKLE IN TIME
It was important to me as a girl in many, many ways. Meg didn't fit in. Her most defining trait was stubbornness, and she felt she could never be as beautiful as her mother or as smart as her brother. But she loved and was loved by her odd family. These things resonated with me, even as a child. Com...

Re: Susan after Narnia
Seanan McGuire’s “Every Heart a Doorway” is about a boarding school for children who have stumbled into other worlds, like Susan, but have returned and are having trouble coping with “normal life.” They desperately want to find a way back to whichever world they think of as home, but the door has va...

Re: Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
I’ve read it. Rather, I’ve listened to it, since I’d rather listen to Neil Gaiman read aloud than … just about anything. It’s a great retelling of the old myths, but that’s all it is. Don’t expect it to be another Gaiman novel. I quite enjoyed it but mostly knew the stories already, since the Norse ...

Lali, I absolutely love Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Very entertaining, if not exactly cerebral. I enjoyed “The Crown,” although I kept expecting Phillip to take Elizabeth for a spin in the blue box. Nothing else has grabbed me lately, although I’ve kept up with “Timeless.” It’s pretty absurd — m...

YOU ARE HIGHLY OPEN TO EXPERIENCE Your score for openness was high, at 97.5%. Openness describes a person’s tendency to think in abstract, complex ways. High scorers are prone to associative thinking, meaning that they readily see relationships between things. People high in Openness are more able t...

A comment to all parties in this discussion: I believe it is possible to disagree, even on issues you feel passionate about, without attacking the motives or character of those who see matters differently than you. It's more effective, more illuminating, more civil and more likely to build and prese...

I loved his books, loved how his mind worked, loved how his wit sparkled, loved that his witches were strong and eccentric, loved that his world rested on a turtle, loved that Death spoke LIKE THIS.
What a sad loss.
What a sad loss.

Re: Lived long, and prospered
I loved Spock from the first episode on. I not only loved the character, I wanted to BE the character. The man who brought him to life so well intercepted my life in unexpected ways. During the few short years of the original series' run, I was a Girl Scout. My troop leader told us one day that she ...

Forced embraces, eh? I don't remember that part.
I'd say that cinema is in desperate need of an editor. It might help if the blurb writer watched the movie, too.
