Christopher Lee has died, aged 93.
I was of that generation that had little exposure to Lee's work prior to the LotR trilogy, but his portrayal of Saruman was one of the highlights of the film to me. He bought a character who I had found a little flat in the books to vivid and powerful life. I will also never forget how he actually made the awful dialogue in the Star Wars prequels sound genuinely convincing.
I will also never forget his (quite successful) experiments with heavy metal music which he only commenced in his late 80s, showing that it is never too late to take up an entirely new pursuit and run with it.
Truly an actor and performer who had ability far-beyond the horror and action roles that he was typecast in. But he always seemed to be enjoying himself.

He was also brilliant as Flay in Gormenghast.
